My First Bike Tamiya Yamaha XV1000 Virago

This is my first bike build, heard so many good things about the Tamiya bike kits.
I bought this one because I was watching Sons of Anachary and fancied trying to make a son's bike on the cheap.

I am going to paint this in differnet black's and metals. I will also give the bike a black and oil stain wash. I will not be stipping the chrome parts as my skills with an airbrush are still a bit suspect. I will change a few of the details and try to make a bike that I would like to ride. Not a weird red and gold one.

I bought this kit and the Tamiya Weathering master (set d) to add details to the exhaust.

Lets have a look at the Box and contents

They were the only spure's the chrome looked really good, but during the build I changed some of the chrome parts, I just sprayed them and hand brushed a different finish. didn't want the whole bike to be like a mirror

The first few bit's glued and primed and all that good stuff. As I have never built a Tamiya before I couldn't believe how easy it went together. I will be buying a few more, that's for sure.

I then glued the engine together and painted it in an aluminium colour

Image

I also added a couple of the chrome bits to the frame.

Image

I then gave the engine it's first wash. I was really happy with the outcome for a first wash.

Again out with primer, I also decided I wanted a satin black finish for the bike so I sprayed the wheels. I am using Wilko's own brand primer and paints and I think they are giving me a great finish. I was also mucking around with the tank but forgot to take pictures.

Sorry I haven't kept this thread up to date I have just been super busy and didn't have time to model let alone keep a thread up to date but I'm back now, so lets finish this build thread.

I left off having just sprayed the wheels satin black. The next thing I think I did (been a long time since I took the photo's) was attach the engine to the frame and add a few more of the chrome parts

Image

I then added the rear wheel and the shock's. I think the bike is looking pretty good.

Image

I then turned my attention to the tank. I filled in the seam gap with a bit of Deluxe materials perfect plastic putty and gave it a good sanding. I am really happy with the finish of the tank. Turned out nice.

various bit's primed and painted.

Image

I then turned my attention to the front end and did the headlight's and forks.

Image

I added the front wheel and the brake discs to the forks

Image

The build was going really well and I was enjoy it. I will definitely do another Tamiya kit in the future.

The front end and seat added to the frame

I have nearly finished just a few bit and pieces to finish up so the next time you see this bike it will be in the final reveal thread
