Got the basic build done and brushed on primer from Vallejo in dark yellow



Then I used Vallejo model air colors: 71-025 dark yellow, 71-074 Radome tan, and 71-023 Hemp in3:2:1 ratio with 5 drops of thinner and one drop of medium retarder from Vallejo to help with flow and working time with my paint brush.

I am next going to highlight the details with 71-025,71-024 and 71-001 white mix then start my washes to give depth to details "before the wash I will try brushing satin varnish and apply the decals followed by a seal of satin varnish over the decals."

I Did the decals and painted some of the details.
I also highlighted all the raised details and put down the base for the muffler rust and wood box. Next I used this old iron skillet to gather pigments and fixed them to the muffler with mate varnish.

I think the rust in the muffler looks a little overtexturized. Other than that your progress looks great!

Looking good, I would suggest reducing the amount of pigments on the exhaust but that just a matter of personal taste. The painted rust looked brilliant to me and a subtler application of pigments would let that shine through.

Thanks I was just thinking about taking a tooth brush to it to tone it down.

Thanks guys and gals I worked on the pigments and think I was able to tone down the effect although I'm afraid all my hard work on the paint is lost. Good thing I took a photo!

Here I have a mock up of the build to check for overall finish of paint after a few touch ups I will cover the tools in gloss and the tank in satin varnish then start the weathering

The barrel has no hole, neither the exhaust and MG. Try to drill them, its easy and will improve the final look

Great suggestion! I am on the hunt for a pin vise... Thing is no place anywhere around me has one and I really don't like using Amazon but I might just have to. Any advice on brands to look at? I'm looking at Tamiya's offerings.

I have bought mine at a show, basically the cheapest one and some tiny drills for it. I am using it mostly for Friul metal tracks.

The barrel and exhaust you can easily drill using a very sharp knife, with pointy tip. I have a medical scalpel and it does it really well, I can drill holes even in 1/35 weapons

I like that a lot! It seems every tank modeller has built that old kit at some point, and yours looks truly good despite the age of the kit.

Cool I love it, thats a sweet looking tank. Are you thinking of making a base? If not it looks cool anyway.

Thanks I picked up a pin vice at the local train Hobbie shop for not to much $$! It sounds like you have experience with the Friul metal tracks. The only thing I am thinking about adding is aftermarket tracks, as the ones in the kit are kinda sad. Not sure where to get them. Any tips?

I built it myself once, my purpose of choosing it was to get into tank modelling through a simple and cheap kit, before heading on to more advanced and expensive models.

Well, with the Friul track, I would recommend you something cheaper, Friuls cost about 27 €. Which is maybe much more than your Pz II cost
You can buy them directly at the manufacturer http://www.friulmodel.hu or at e-bay
Choose between ATL-30, ATL-52 or ATL-53

I usually buy them at Moson Makett Show, or from some Hungarian seller on show, where have good discounts.

Good alternative, and also cheaper is BRONCO AB3513 1/35 PzKpfw II Workable Track Link Set

I used the included tracks, which was a terrible experience. They appeared to be completely resistant to all forms of glue, and snapped off far too easily. Really, the tracks are the only bad thing about this kit.

I got the Bronco tracks off ebay! They should show up in like a week! I got two sets for $22!!

Tamiya's Panzer II kit is awesome! It was really fun when I built it. Yours is turning out pretty good really liking the DAK paint job, kinda wish I done mine that way. Looking foward to seeing the finished build.

Another reason why I love this kit is because it's so darn cheap. I'm thinking out buying a bunch of them and build a Panzer II army.

It's been fun doing the tracks I think they look great it's just a shame they don't fit the drive sprocket. Well if anyone has a tip on getting them to sit right I'm all ears.

Very cool looking PZ II The tracks certainly are a big improvement from the kit supplied set.

It's not unusual to have fit issues when adding aftermarket track sets. I can't see the specific problem in the photo, but the sprocket teeth may need to be cut/thinned/sanded to fit the new tracks. Just a few ideas shown below:

thanks OliveDrab. I will give it a go! It's not that bad the tracks just don't sit down at the leading edge of the sprocket and the links have a small buckle around it.

This is only a Test! I used the tracks that came with the tank to see what the results would be like no pigments yet just paint and washes

Looks good. I like the scratches on the markings.
