How to find new tools

I was wondering if there's a way to find new tool kits?

One of the mistakes I make is buying cheap kits...and that invariable means an old tooling. Apart from paying more (which isn't necessarily a guarantee of a new tooling), is there somewhere where people go to see when the kit was manufactured?

I know that's also not a guarantee of a new tooling. But used in conjunction with any reviews out there would help.

I don't always mind these old kits. They can be fun to make and hone your skills in...but sometimes it would just be nice to have a kit that snaps together nice and easy with nice, easy to cut from sprues and nice decals.

Like Cymru replied scalemates is your ticket for any kit research. Not all cheap kits start out life that way and assuming that it's only old tool models you would be wrong. A lot of molds get sold on after a certain time and because they already made their money the next pressing of the rebox is cheap and good quality.

As always happy modeling and keep sticking styrene.
