1/700 Aoshima IJN Battleship Nagato

Post by ComradeBrad »

This will be my first ever ship model. I am doing a ship for the first time because of my brother-in-law. My wife is from Japan and a couple months ago we went to visit them for a month. While we were there he got a ship model and wanted me to help him build it, but we didn't end up having time. So when I got home I figured I would buy a ship and then we could build our ships together. We could keep each other updated on the progress and send each other pictures. So I will post my progress pictures that I am sending him here as well for this group build. Here she is:

I'm looking forward to your progress. That appears to be a nice model.
I've never built a ship either, so I'm sure your build should prove interesting.

I'm going to follow this I love battleships.

As a keen diver I've been lucky enough to see a few close up, not dived this one yet though but it's on the list :th:

Holy moly these tiny pieces are killing me! So far so good though. Haven't lost any pieces to the carpet monster yet. So far I've finished the main guns, the hull is together, deck is attached, and I've built what I believe is the "bridge." These tiny pieces are going to be the death of me. I must power through so I can get to the painting!

Now back to work! I started on what I am calling the "smoke stack." This tiny thing had like 11 parts.

After that I worked on the section between the bridge and the smoke stack that had a lot of little guns and platforms. Also had to glue in some rows of turrets along the sides of the ship as well as some miscellaneous parts like some cranes, etc.

How is the Nagato coming along? It looks like small bits but it seems to be building up nicely for you!
