Looking For Perfect Plastic Putty Experiences

Hi Guys,

I'm writing an article about Deluxe's Perfect Plastic Putty. I would like to include people's thoughts about using this product; good or bad, so I can get an idea what people think about it.

I know many people have had issues with it drying in the tube, myself included. After hearing from Deluxe, I've found out the issue is the tube allows air back into it, thus drying it out. Deluxe is aware of the issue and I understand they are investigating a new tube that will keep air out. Kind of like a toothpaste tube does. In the meantime, they suggest squeezing out the air before replacing the cap.

The people at Deluxe will see the article. So your thoughts can help them improve the products they bring to our community.

Well I have to be honest. I find it goes off really quickly in the tube and goes a horrid, crusty, chewing gum like paste. Not good for models after a while, It also shrinks alot. I would suggest using CA glue for filling, Great stuff. I use Bob smith CA glue. I used to use Deluxe perfect plastic putty for a while but it goes off far to fast.

That's one of the things I'm looking into; is the problem the putty or the packaging? Deluxe is saying the packaging.

Ive been using it about a year, the drying in the tube is a problem. Ive remedied it by using a coffee stir to mix the dried bit with the good bit. I find it effective for your most common small gaps and the fact it is water soluble I consider a big plus, no need to rub away at it with acetone like tamiya putty or bondo glazing putty. The negative part is I find its prone to chip apart if you attempt to rescribe a panel line that intersects your filled area, even with ample drying time. I've found it less prone to shrinkage than other puttys but I've used it predominantly on small gaps, usually under 1mm you can use it to smooth a transition but its not ideal for that.

I find that the dispenser tube is to large, making it hard for me to use it to fill the gaps between the deck and superstructure on my model ships. Also it dispenses to wide of a bead of putty for my likes. I been using Vallejo putty, it has a nice narrow dispenser which dispenses a narrow bead and allows me to get into tight places.

Like mighydraw drying is a problem , but if you just put some water in then that is fixed.
I have found that if used on a surface in a thin film then it can flak off.
The dispenser should be changed to a hypodermic type, it would be more useful and no air would enter.
Drying in the tube is not that fast and I live in a dry climate. Shrinkage is small.

I will say that even with all problems about drying in the tube this putty is awesome. The perfect thing for filling gaps without any traces. It's troublesome to achieve the same clear result with Tamiya putty. Sometimes I use these two brands simultaneously: Deluxe for rough filling a hole, Tamiya as a thing for a smooth finish which might be sanded.
I really believe that Deluxe Putty will be better after changing its package.

Actually the best thing about it's present packaging is that it will stand up on it's cap.

Completely agree. Mine had been fine until I stored it on its side. Manky build up in the nozzle ensued but now its back on its cap, the stuff comes out beautifully.
