Wet sanding?

Hi!

Basic questions - what is wet sanding, how do you do it and why would you?

Bearing in mind my modelling knowledge is limited to what I've seen on YouTube

common with resin models....resin is not nice stuff
use wet and dry sandpaper or sticks and use wet over a sink.

I either dip the sanding stick (sanding paper tends to disintegrate when becoming too wet) or the part i want to sand into water and then start to sand. The sanding dust is caught in the water and you are not exposed to dangerous things to inhale. Once finished you simply flush everything off the sanders and the part with water.
Wet sanding and especially wet polishing is used in my profession for perfect polished metal surfaces. You basically glue a polishing paper sheet on a glass plate and while sanding or polishing some water runs across the plate and flushes away the abrasion. That way you achieve a much better finish with less effort. This might be relevant for model building, too, but to a lesser extend.
