Hand Brush Painting: Vallejo or Tamiya ??

Gentlemen,
As you may know, I will be soon 81 and been away from the hobby 30 years. I am therefore starting from scratch, although this forum and videos have been of tremendous help. The internet also makes it easier to navigate all the areas I need to absorb before embarking on my modeling journey.
I have a unique problem in that I will be 81 and need to determine my physical capabilities to do an adequate job of modeling, i.e., steady hand control, eye strain etc. Therefore, I will begin by hand painting my work rather than airbrush. If things, work out for the best I will then switch to
airbrush painting.

In researching the pluses and minuses of hand painting models I must decide on the brand of model paint to use. I have decided on acrylic over enamel because of the ease of use, and the vast universe of acrylic paint. I pretty much have settled on VALLEJO MODEL paints. However, there is also TAMIYA acrylic paint. It is my understanding that Tamiya acrylic paint does not yield good results when hand painted. Is this correct?
Am I correct in deciding on Allejo?

The Vallejo modelcolor and Panzer Aces ranges are very good for brush painting
The model color range is a huge selection of colors and it can be used for just about anything
The Panzer aces are the same when it comes to their use but the colors are limited
There are about 40 colors in that range but the focus on painting tank crew figures and some parts of vehicles
But they all have similar colors in the modelcolor range

Tamiya acrylics can be used for brush painting but you would need the retarder aswell
The problem with these paints is that they dry very fast
And to be honest a bit too fast for brush painting
The retarder slows the drying wich in turn makes them easier to use with a brush
So you can use them but they need a bit of work to get them to work properly
Atleast for the way you want to use them

So i think you made the right choise
The only comment i would have about the Vallejo paints is that the metallics fron the modelcolor range aren't very good and you may want to pick another range or brand for those kind of paints
For brush painting the True metal paint seem to be good
Those are from AK interactive i think (not sure though)

Life color are a very good brush paint with color sets that come very close to actual color needed for your subject and also a true acrylic.

I tend to use vallejo for brush painting, the model air also brushes well, and am switching to mainly tamiya with the airbrush, both are what is easily available local to me and do the job i want them to do. Another vote for ak true metal although the new metal air from vallejo brush well and never count out citadel for their metallics and random colours/washes.
