I wonder if someone can tell me was zimmerit applied with a trowel to create the ridges or was the zimmerit applied and then stamped to create the patterns.

AND is there a new best product for modeling zimmerit.

Trumpeter makes a set of rollers and other tools for creating Zimmerit patterns in putties.
There are also PE sheets and resin sheets that can be used.
The putty/tool method will take considerable time and patience, the sheets will require a slow CA glue and will still need touched up at joints with putty.

I think the Dragon kits with the Zimmerit already molded on are the best choice (if available), they take no extra time or skill beyond the regular Dragon kits and normally don't cost any more than the non-Zimmerit kits of the same vintage.

I find the Atak Zimmerit really lovely to use. I am too stupid to make my own Zimmerit with milliput and such materials. The Atak Zimmerit has lovely detail, you can damage perfectly and it fits well on the plastic parts. It is rather expensive though, but i do not mind that too much really.

I did this over the weekend, my first attempt at doing ZImmerit with putty. This is Miliput Superfine and the Trumpeter roller set. I don't think I did it thin enough, but I think the next time I do it I'll get it even tighter. I still have the escape hatch and mantlet to do.

Always wondered how people did that. I'm not a trained tank builder but that looks pretty on the nose, mannloon.
