Getting Rid Of Seam Line

Guys,

I have watched the tutorials - use enough glue to melt the seams - start coarse and then work to a fine grade of sander but I still end up with a faint line.

Is there any tips you can give me pls - I use a felt tip pen to try to highlight any problems but I still can't seem to get this right.

I think that the problem you have is caused by the parts
The method you discribe is good but if the edges of the parts don't fully touch eachother you will get a small line

What i would suggest is to use a little bit of filler
Either acrylic filler or molten sprue will work
Allthough molten sprue contains glue or cement so don't use too much
If you make a line of filler over the line you have on the model and let that dry ,then you can sand it down a bit and the seam line should be gone

It is hard to see at first
A dry fit can show it but to be honest i always notice it after i glued the parts

I start with lightly sanding the seams before the dry fit just enough so any tiny flash is removed, the dry fit then, after ling and sanding i will paint the seams with primer, usually black, to check, then sand or us an Alec scraper which conforms to the curves of the part. For me it is just time and patience.

I have just found a little trick that works wonders...making sure the filler has completely done its job after sanding flat, and making sure the filler has not dropped and needs more filler...instead of spraying the seams, go over it with a Sharpie Pen, just over the seam line, dries in seconds...and you can see if the filler has failed instantly, if the filler has dropped, just re-fill and sand, the Sharpie pen marks easily comes off with IPA....Just done this with my BAE Hawk, and works a treat.

Also agree with above, the Alec scrapers are an awesome tool....got my second one today funnily enough.

For things like tank barrels i glue then fill before i even break out a sander, once the filler disappears you're done, i do a similar trick with wing halves etc. Be careful with felt tips or sharpies as any ink left over can bleed through the paint, i use a dry wipe marker instead, wipes off with a finger but still shows up imperfections.

Ooh glad you mentioned that with the bleed paint scenario, will make sure it's all gone....

After the sanding and putty and sanding again, faint seam lines can be filled with an application of Mr. Surfacer, I use the 1000. Then if line again shows after priming, a little more Mr Surfacer and a gentle sanding should do the trick
