Because I have plenty of time before the group build ends, I wanted to balance out the sides and I like aircraft with interesting colour schemes.(Which my son so kindly found for me.)

I am only using the colours shown above, not replicating either of the aircraft.




I think the kit is now 13 years old and from a quick look at the kit I see no flash. The surface detail is good with what looks like one seam line.(The next picture.)

Looking for an interior colour I found Tamiya XF-4 Yellow Green. If this is the right colour I do not know. Today on this model build it will do, as FUN is the name of the game for all my builds. I looked at the instructions and sprayed all the appropriate parts with XF-4.

Whilst looking through information on the Dinah I came across an article where someone was asking if you could spray Games Workshop paints. So I thought I would give it a go. If you thin the paint with enough thinners (acrylic) it sprays very nicely.
So the under carriage was sprayed Mithril Silver on top of a matte black primer.

The interior was then given a wash of Citadel Agrax Earthshade, that's a brown wash to you and me.


I then painted the instrument panel, the exhaust pipes and the engines.



It is now hammer time. I glued both halves of the fuselage together with out taking any pictures with the interior in place........
So here are some post-union, I also glued the engines in place.



The build is going very well at the moment, I will post more tomorrow.

Thank you, it is all about experimentation with the paints you have on the day. Today my local model shop is closed, so I wanted to build and had to use the colours on hand.

Welcome to part three of this very nice build, I glued in the 'cross bar' and drill out the two holes for the drop tank.


I then glued in the landing gear into its housing. The joint was a little bit rough so I sanded it down and applied more paint and wash. Once dry I glued it into the engine nacelles.



Moving on to the engines, a small rubber poly cap was placed inside the engine and its cover was glued on.

The engine cowl interior was sprayed XF-4 and glued in place.


The two halves of each wing were glued and clamped in place and left to dry.


The fit was very good. With just a little sanding the wings and engine were brought together as a dry fit.
I am very pleased.

Well I have not done very little this week to my build due to the fact I have been waiting for a nice blue, to spray the upper sides of the aircraft.
I wanted Tamiya XF-8 Flat Blue and for the underside XF-12 J. N. Grey. I glued the tail fins on to the aircraft as well as the wings with only a small amount of filler. I glued the instrument panel to the cockpit combing.

Due to the fact that there is little detail in the cockpit sides I chose to put the pilot and his mate in.


I had to mix a red brown for the boots and gloves and spinner. I used Citadel paints Scorched Brown and Scab Red at a mix of 25%-75% approx. Which when sprayed look like this.

I gave the pilots a black wash to pick out the details.

Then I glued them into the seats.


I think it looks ok.

The build is looking wonderful and really nice job on the pilots also

Yes you must get one,

It has been a slow week this week, what with a late cover and a late shift at work. So I managed to spend a little time on the Dinah today.
I covered in the undercarriage bays and glass window areas with small bits of foam. I chose XF-12 to paint the under side, but first I sprayed XF-54 dark sea grey on the panel lines.

Like so.

Then I part filled in the panels with XF-12.

I then mixed white paint into the original colour (XF-12) to get a bit of tonal difference, it is hard to see on the photo but it looks okay to the eye.

Then a coat of semi-clear cote was sprayed to protect the paint. Cockpit canopy masking is next and a covering of blue, looking forward to that.

So it is time to mask the canopy and put down the first coat of paint. As I said at the start of the build this kit is now 13 years old and it's starting to look old in the canopy area. This shows itself on the canopy framing, it is raised and strong at the front of the canopy but further back the framing cannot be felt when one runs a finger over it. It took me two hours to complete this task.
THE GOOD.


THE NOT SO GOOD.

Is it me or do you notice at certain times during a build you have one or two mishaps? Here you can see my work space and the spill mark on the cardboard where I knocked over the glue pot.

Well it is coming together now and this is the part I like best, the painting. I will post more in the coming week, so have fun because we all need our "plastic therapy" to make it through.

Once the first coat of Flat Blue had dried, I mixed up a second coat, this time adding some White as well to lighten the colour, using this lighter colour I highlighted the panels on the aircraft.

Then I followed it up with an overall coat of Semi-Gloss.

That's a great choice of kit , I love the crew , you have done an excellent job so far .
And the blue is a good looking scheme

Yes nice blue, my son found the scheme.

So I am on the last leg of the build now. The paint is on and now it's time for the decals, I will be using the kit decals for 95% of the model but I have sent for some squadron markings which are on the way.
The Tamiya decals went down well with the use of setting and softening solutions. I then did a few paint peel and scratch marks on the plane to make it look in service.


I then gave the aircraft a wash of sand from he who shall not be named. Once dry it was wiped off with damp kitchen roll and cotton buds.


Voila.


I then removed the masking tape, pressed in the props and added some exhaust stains using Tamiya smoke and Nato brown.
So there are the under carriage doors to fit, observation windows, external fuel tank, pitot tube, aerial, squadron decals and it is done.

Hi I said before I'll say it again I don't know how you plan guys do such fine detail work brilliant, those figures out standing I wish mine where as half as good, well done
