Tamiya British Universal Carrier

Hi guys, and welcome to a new build thread.
This is the Tamiya 1/35 British Universal Carrier kit.
It has more sprues than I was expecting given the size of the box, but there are several. The kit includes 5 figures, two for Europe and two for North Africa, whichever the modeler wants to use. I will be building this kit as a European Theatre vehicle without any figures. The figs will go to the growing spares box.
I started the build last night and did the first few steps.
The hull bottom:
The engine cover:
The front bulkhead:
The next update will be at least a week in coming, so hang on.
Until then, good night and good luck.

From the cover its this one
https://www.scalemates.com/kits/123137- ... rier-mk-ii from 1994.
2001 version is
https://www.scalemates.com/kits/133188- ... rier-mk-ii with new parts. But sounds like only different figures in "tense" poses rather than relaxed in 35175

I've built both versions recently and the only difference I could tell between them were the figures as you say

Hi guys, quick update here.
I finished the detail painting (including the rubber wheel rims) so I slapped on a gloss coat with my new Paasche Talon, which I bought Monday after my Neo broke.
I also painted and glossed the three Bren machine guns.

Very nice work, looking forward to see how it looks with decals and such. I have this kit and along with a storage set. I may give it a go now that I finished my Jagdpanther.

Nice. I think this is one where the interior and figures really make it come alive. What are your plans? Dio?
Ok ok I have to ask how you are so neat with the tools painting? Even with a 0/5 brush and magnification I get it everywhere at 1:48 scale. Tips?

Well, thank you for your kind words. I think part of the problem is that you are working with smaller tools at 1/48 scale. Additionally, what you see in the pictures is very far from the original product. I generally spend quite a bit of time touching up various places on the tools, so I wouldn't say I'm particularly neat right off the bat.
And I'm not sure what I'll do with this kit. Maybe save it for a later dio with some more stuff to fill the space.

The Ultimate wash has really helped to bring out all your details, great job. How long did you leave the wash on before clean up?

I've been having some problems brushing on the Ultimate wash, it never seems to stay where I put it. Airbrushing it works best for me. I sprayed it on and then left it for about an hour, and then wiped it off with some moist and some dry q-tips. I find that dry q-tips are better for large flat surfaces so not all of the wash gets wiped off.

Thanks, chalky. I warn you, though, it may be a while until the next update. I'm in a new program this year at school and the homework is insane.

I'm further behind than you are, not having done anything to mine and yours is looking so good. I think some of these institutions and teachers load students up with way too much so much so that it becomes counter productive. We all need that down time to sort out what we have just done or learnt.

Very nice, always like the Bren Carrier ever since I drove around in one on my holidays back when there was only 3 channels and they were all black and white.
IMO one thing that would make it even better would be a dark brown wash on the rifles and bren gun wood.
