Masking and paint peel help

Hi all,

Working on a RAAF Iroquois for my dad, Brown plastic italeri. Primed with get AK primer and then tamiya /mr hobby paints - acrylic.

After carefully removing the masking I've got a lot of paint and primer coming off as well as some leak under the tape.

My question is two fold- how do I prevent this and how do I fix it in it's current state, I've attached some pictures to help.

The seepage is a result of not burnishing the edge of the tape enough, make sure its fully rubbed down. The peel is, most likely, a result of not cleaning the kit to remove any mold release agent. Its also important to clean again before painting to remove any grease/body oil that has happened during handling. Also allow the paint to fully cure before putting on masking tape.

It's tamiya.

I think the cleaning is the issue, it's worse around the tail where I would have held it and I have oily skin. I suspect that was the problem. I'll wash and use gloves next time.

The two options you could consider to fix the model:
1. Sand the model starting with a medium grit, and work towards a fine grit to smooth out the areas of peeled or rough paint. Then wash and re-paint the model. The problem with this method there is no guarantee some of the other leftover paint won't peel also.

2. Strip the existing paint and start over. Although I have not tried it myself, I have read that soaking the model in isopropyl alcohol and gently brushing with a soft brush (old toothbrush maybe?) will strip Tamiya paint. The alcohol will also "clean" the surface for the new layer of paint.
