Tamiya Tiger H1 1/35

So, i've gotten a tiger 1 tank, that was prebuilt by someone i know, he said i could use the tracks on it and do whatever i would like with the tiger itself. So i decided to repaint it and keep the tracks on it. The painting has already been done but now i want to do some weathering ( never done that before )

Anyone know where to get some 1/35 tiger decals and some good weathering products?

The paintwork looks pretty good
It is a bit unusual to have a full camo early production vehicle but ofcourse some of those survived multiple battles so they could have been repainted in later style camoschemes

As far as decals i don't really know
I rarely use after market decals and i still have a large collection of turrer numbers from older builds ,i tend to keep the spare decals

For the weathering i use a lot of Mig productions and AK interactive products
Both are well known brands and offer large selections of products for weathering
And then you have Ammo for Mig
But as far as i know those are pretty similar to the AK stuff
The products i tend to use are washes ,streaking grimes ,oil and fuel stains ,earth and dust effects and finally pigments
With the exception of the pigments they are all enamel products wich means they have a slower drying time but you can work on them for longer
You can take the Vallejo way of weathering but that is all acrylic and is much faster
But because of that it is harder to work on it if you are new to weathering
And don't buy all the different colors and effects at once
I did and it will set you back 200 euros before you know it
It is better to pick a few and start from there

And it is very usefull to get a good book or 2
I found the FAQ2 for AFV's very usefull but unless you get it as an Ebook it is pretty expensive
And the dutch version is out of print and hard to find
But the Tankart books are pretty good aswell allthough they are a bit more advanced

And you can look for some tutorials on youtube
Ammo for Mig has some good tutorials on how you can use various products

And i will send you those links to the buildthreads of my Tigers
Hopefully this will help you to get started

Oh and you can get most if not all of the weathering stuff at Daxmagic
If you aren't sure what to get he can probably help you out with setting up a basic set with the stuff you need

I was looking for some good camo's on google... Couldn't find anything i really liked accept this one.... Haven't done my research very well...
As for after marked decals, ebay has some sheets like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Star-Decals-Tig ... Swl8NVWXPb i think i want to be getting. Also have to look into getting some weathering products. Any tips on making paint chips on the tank?

I think you can use those decals
But it doesn't really matter if the model is a exact replica of the real tank
I think it is more important to have fun building the kit and making it look the way you want
And while building you will get to learn more techniques and tricks
As for the chippung i already sent you a pm with a explaination on how i make them
But you can always look for tips on youtube
There are some good modellers that make videos where they explain and show the techniques they use
Often it is easier to learn by seeing it then to read about it

And don't worry about doing tons of research
I often spend only minutes doing that unlike many modellers that can spend hours or even days reading about a single tank or unit
I don't care much about that
If it looks like the tank i want to build then i am already happy
I rather spend my time building then reading about the stuff i am going to build

Soo i tried to do some chipping on the brown paint , give me your honest opinion and tips

Some tips on chipping:
"No chip is too small" is a phrase I've heard many times by some very good modelers. Keep this in mind when doing chipping as smaller chips tend to look more realistic than large chips.

Looks like you are off to a good start though. If you want to tone down the contrast of the chipping, further weathering can be done. A highly diluted rust colored 'dot' or 'pin' wash can be done over the chips to help blend them in. This step is usually done along with further weathering of the tank. Of course its entirely up to you how far you want to chip and weather your Tiger, as long as your having fun

I haven't gotten as deep into modeling this far.... so this is more for doing up more experience and see how far i can get with the tools i have and can buy with my limited budget. Thanks for the tips though really helps me a lot. Im going to use the sponge technique tomorrow and see how that works out.

Have been doing more chipping with a sponge, this looks way better than with a brush

I agree, but for the first time doing it, i think i did a good job. Now i need to order some weathering products. Do you need to put a coat of cote on it if you are going to use weathering?
