Gloss coat

Hi All

Just a quick one. I've applied a coat or two of clear gloss varnish over the top of the black on the Vandy1 F-14 I'm building and it's not come out how I' would have thought. It's not gloss but like a rough satin.

To touch it is like 1200 grit sand paper. I've use Valejo Gloss and thined it down and added flow improver. When it's wet it looks great but dry is a disaster.

What have I done wrong?

I guess this can have several causes. You get such a result when the paint kind of dries during its flight from the nozzle to the surface of the model. You could try to add a retarder so the glossy varnish can dry on the model, therefore allowing it to diffluence on the model and dry then to achieve a glossy result.
There are also other things that can affect the quality of your finish, like air humidty, pressure, distance between the airbrush gun and the model, the paint itself and what not.
Maybe some of the know it all experts can provide a full and elaborate answer, i am just guessing from the distance.

My guess is to higher pressure (3 bar). I would suggest 1.5 bar.

If gloss coating doesn't work you could use tamiya's polishing compound if it's a final coat.
If you're gloss coating for weathering then I'm really not sure.
