Figured i join you guys in this GB.. will be building a Bronco 1/350 Kilo Class submarine. I plan on do a seascape diorama

using foam board. a wire brush cup and drill I sculpt the seascape

I outlined the hull and cut out the foam to fit the upper hull in

That base looks good already! Deffo following this one!

quick update..

I applied some liquitex Gloss medium & Varnish on the bare foam board. then laid a kitchen paper towl over the wet medium. I applied more Gloss medium over the top of the towel and spread. I then press and smooth the towel out to conform to the sculpted sea scape. Let dry and then cut the paper for the hull opening. I forgot to photo these steps. here are the same steps from my PTO build.








I then applied Liquitex Gesso spreading it evenly over the sea scape. I do this step about 10-12 times more to get a smooth surfcae

Am I right in thinking the Kilo class was a diesel electric boat, not a nuke? There's a great series of novels by Patrick Robinson about submarine warfare, one of them is called 'Kilo Class', its about the Ruskies selling them to Iran and the US trying to stop them by sending in the SEALS. Great stuff.

Sorry to get off topic but I do like a good submarine yarn.

it's a modertn Russian made Diesel electric submarine operated by Russia, china(Under Liscence), India, Iran, Algeria., Vietnam, and I think Poland and Romania??

12 coats of Gesso are applied to the seascape. I'll let fully for a few days before a light sanding and beginning to paint the seascape. Kilo is base painted using Black grey.

progress to report... Painted the seascape after a light sanding. I used Artist Acrylic Paints..Phthalo green, blue and turquoise in varing ratios to get the green hue I wanted. I then mixed some light green and white to make a minty green to spray to simulate the churn of the water around the hull. The Hull is painted with Black/grey and nato black. then glossed. it is ready for weathering.

the seascape is ready for several coats of gloss varnish medium.

I installed the bow planes in the "dive" postion to add some interest

seascape is complete for now.. I'll add some turbelence when the sub is installed. Just used Liquitex high gloss varnish on the surface.. just two coats

The Hull is weathered and ecals applied.. Just a bit more weathering to tone the draft marks down and a flat coat. After that she'll be ready to be seated in the base,

ship has been flat coated and set into the seascape. Using Vallejo's Still water, I layed some out on a piece of wax paper to dry, to use as the water coming over the bow.



using Liqutex Gloss varnish and raylon cotton I added the ship generated waves and wake







I'll let this dry overnight and then hit it with a few coats of the Varnish
