OK so this is what I'm doing when I should be out riding my bike , it says weekend edition on the box but with my lack of skill and knowledge, and total lack of time , will probably be more like months Keen to give a bit of bracing wire rigging a go , so it's liable to turn into a big mess !!

I will follow along though I should be working, sleeping or building my own projects

Ok so I wanted to replicate the bracing wires found on the original, and I think I have found something that will do the job. I pulled apart a bit of bicycle cable and was left with a few curly strands of wire that look , to me anyway, to be about the right thickness. But it needed to be straightened out , so I found a tile and rolled the wire under a steel ruler, and it came out well , I think ill give it a bit more of a roll before I use it .



The top strand is what is left of the original brake cable.
The second strand is the straightened wire.
The third strand is how they came out of the original cable before I rolled them out.

Next I fired up the smallest drill bits I ever thought I would use and made a few test holes to see what size I needed to pass the wire through snugly , turned out to be my smallest , at 0.03 mm !




And the final hole I decided on .







Finally I did some work on the cockpit, below is a shot of the bits undercoated in Alclad white undercoat with micro filler , great stuff ! Have also done some painting and should be ready to assemble the fuselage next and get it ready to paint , looks like it will need a bit of filling , which is not my strong point , so bear with me

Ok so I got the cockpit built and the fuselage together and got a couple of coats of primer on it and the front end assembly, then had a look at the tail rudder assembly and realised that I would need to attach this to the fuselage before painting, especially if I want to have a go at the bracing and actuating wires . So I started to try and attach the tail pieces and drill more holes for the rear actuating wires and didnt leave the primer long enough to harden properly, so now I have some nasty finger prints to deal with the tail rudder actuating wires are certainly making things difficult, totally doing my head in , so as predicted a big MESS!

Well I eventually gave up on the wire idea , much too hard to work with , so I raided my son's fishing tackle box and found this :



Much easier to work with!! Will need to paint it tho

Finally got the tail end of the fuselage sort of together, gosh I need to learn some patience, and how to use tamiya extra thin ! Sometimes more is not better !!!! Thank goodness for the ultimate moddeling products skinny Sanders and buffing sticks !!

Got the engine painted today as well used my trusty Javis brush and tamiya flat aluminum and gun metal paints

I am looking for a canvass kind of color to paint the wings , so I mixed tamiya dark yellow with deck tan and came up with the resulting color below , not sure if I added too much yellow or if I should just go with straight deck tan , will brush over the top a little bit of mig dark smoke pigment, possibly a touch of concrete as well if needed

Looking good GB, nice to see you added the control cables........maybe a bit lighter, it will probably dry back lighter anyhow, looking at your post of the original, its difficult to tell though.

Thanks Gaz , I'm really scared off by the yellowness of it all , starting to think that the sandy grey of straight deck tan might be the way to go, will muck around with it a bit more before committing tho .

OK , so I took a break from other projects to have a go at the wing color , ended up mixing 1 part tamiya dark yellow to 20 parts deck tan to make an aged canvass sort of look , turns out the wings appear to be made from aluminium and not canvass at closer inspection man I'm stupid , and not all that happy with the color , maybe with a bit of weathering the will look OK or maybe I should go with the aluminum look ?? Hmmmm

I will be watching this tom see how it all comes together. I don't see any mess. Really like to see how the rigging is done.
Nearly bought this off ebay a number of times.

I built this one a while ago, bit fiddly as you say! Seems to be coming along fine.
