Ok made a start with kit it looks to be an amazing.

Spent about 7 hours working on this last listening to some tunes and chilling with the guys in the hangout.

No real problems with assembly apart from the Pice that holds the floorboards and control stick needs shortening by about 2-3mm where it glues to the bulkhead. Other than that I've had no problems at all

I added some wiring today and assembled the seat dry fitted all the parts and then Primed it in Ultimate primer.

Progress on the Special Hobby 1/32 Tempest Cockpit.
Went together ok, I'm more a fan of german cockpits myself, find them more interesting to build paint and weather.

The fuselage is all buttoned up too glued and drying :)

Bit more work on this over the past weeks

Got the cockpit installed in the fuselage and the halves glued together, took a bit of clamping but no real issues. Its going to need a bit of filling here and there but i didn't expect anything less :thumb2:
Image

Got the wheel bays built up, one side proved problem the other no problem at all, there is a couple mislabeled parts in there so be aware.

I got them primed in Ultimate black primer and then spayed in Akan interior Green grey, once dry it was given a burnt umber wash and dry brush
Image

Test fitting the parts the bays look to fit ok

Image

As do the wing roots

Image

The rear join will need some work though

Mocked up its a good size

Mmmm, want one!

The cockpit and wheel bays look superb. Exterior looks great too. Amazing how Hawkers created this thoroughbred out of the Tiffy. What a machine.

Go the Special Hobby 1/32 Tempest for the most part buttoned up now, its a kit that needs some work (including the damn glue mark left by one of the clamps :( ), but i fully expected this. I'll get back to it in a few days and get sanding and filling :)
The tempest book i got is a great resource, well worth getting if you thinking of building one, Airframe and Miniature No 4 by Richard A. Franks

Nice build Paul, The cockpit looks well used. Nice to see that this "limited edition" kit is coming together nicely. Not like some where the model is more filler at the end because the fit is that poor.

Finally got my Rosie the riveters so could crack on with this, got it all rescribed and riveted. Took a fair bit of work to get to this stage but I'm happy were its at.

Primed in Ultimate black primer

Got the basic camo laid out then set at the invasion stripes, using a gauge to ensure ei got them the right size and shape. Yes i know these with brushed or mopped on but, scale that rough edge down and you would see it as much.

It was a mammoth masking session. The Aizu making the we stock at Ultimate proving invaluable when doing the tight lines and edges.

Done :thumb2:

Now time to hard edge the camo work and start the paint fading process, still its more to do to the paint.

Hi Paul. The Tempest is looking superb. What process did you use to lighten the paintwork and bring out the panelling?

Made some more progress on the Tempest. Got all the landing gears bays doors, wheels and legs all painted ready for weathering. Exhausts and barrels painted too.
Used the Montex mask set to paint the roundals and tail register markings too, very time consuming and labour intensive, the jury is still out over these things.

Paint weathering next.

Some fading and mottling to the Tempest paintwork today.

Started off fading the panel centres with lighter tones of the base colour, then added random patches and lines of a darker tone of the base colour and then blended back in with a highly thinned mix of the base colours :)

Still the underneath to do yet...

I've been building two of them for the past four months. Neither is as advanced as yours. What a beautiful beast. Thanks for showing the progression of the mottling process.

Of all the kits you have built, this has to be one of my favourites.
