New rules added to the ISM Guidelines

It is with a heavy heart that we've had to introduce a warning system here on ISM. We have decided to do this, after much deliberation, as we don't want the relaxed atmosphere and generally laid back experience we like to promote here on ISM ruined by a few individuals who feel the need to upset the applecart and wreck/derail threads with petty squabbles and ruin the experience for the majority of our members who come here for a little quite time and read about their favourite hobby.

We've also made the decision, after speaking with our web host, to change the rules for signatures. All we're asking is that there are no video clips, GIFs or large pictures as a member's signature. Banners are OK as long as they're not larger than 450 x 50 pixels and in the file format of jpg only.

Please see below for the new clauses that have been added to the site guidelines....
15. Warning System - There is currently a warning system in place for infraction of the rules and guidelines or for continuously causing problems/baiting/trolling on the forum or any of ISM's channels with other members, the moderating team or with the admin themselves . A three strikes and out rule is applied to the warning system. This means once you're given three warnings, the next infraction of the rules or guidelines will incur a permanent and total ban with no possibility what so ever of a return to ISM. This will include all of ISM's channels, which includes FaceBook, YouTube and these forums in their entirety.

16. Member's signatures - Member's signatures must only contain text or a very small banner or similar picture no larger tan 450 x 50 pixels. Any signatures containing video clips, GIFs or large pictures will not be allowed. If you have one of these please remove it immediately or when one of the moderating team contacts you and asks you to do so. The reason for this is that it consumes a lot of our server's resources, slows the site/threads down and in general, ruins the flow of threads. Repeated offending will incur a warning.
The full site guidelines can be found here..... http://www.intscalemodeller.com/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=19

Hopefully, we'll never have to use the warning system, but the nature of the web being what it is, it will unfortunately mean that we will probably have to at some point, which is a shame.

If you have any questions what so ever about the new guidelines, please feel free to PM myself, Paul or any of the moderating team.

Happy modelling everyone :D

Interesting measures!
Agree about the signature picture thing, all it does is consuming bandwith, space, energy and it is not really useful anyway. Removed mine immediately because it is a 100% sensible measure.
About the warning system i´d like to raise the point that it might lack transparency. I have no idea how it is done and who is in charge of it. Anyway, you guys won´t abuse it for sure and i dont think that we will ever put it to action.

Nice to see you agree with the new rules Michael :thumb2:

As for the warning system, we have a team of moderators and Admin, we all moderate the forum as needed, but ultimately the decisions about warnings will be from myself and lee.

As long as everyone behaves then nobody will get the three warning and end up being banned :cheers2:

Have a nice night

Paul

I totally agree too.
Let's keep this a happy place!
Negativity and squabble have no place here.

I have always agreed with non-rubbish in the past and will do so in the future without a doubt.
You guys know best what to do. Moderators do not seem to have much competence on this forum. I´d suggest that there should be more of them around in order to make policing the forum for you admins easier.

I don't think you should belittle what our moderators do. You have no idea what the guys do at all Michael. Also 3 mods two admin is plenty :thumb2;

I just rarely encounter moderators here, so i figured there might be only few (and there are few indeed).
However, because they are not really noticeable they do indeed a good job. Handling things in a discreet way is the best way. Thank you for bringing this to my attention!

I don't see any problem. The rules are easy to understand. Follow them or go somewhere else.

The rules are the same ones everyone's had since they were in diapers. Treat everyone with respect, treat everyone the way you would like to be treated and if you can't say something nice, say nothing at all. Because this is the internet, the pulled by the ear method, the slap to the back of the head, or grandma's wooden spoon the size of an oar can't be used, so warnings and bannings are the only option. There's over 5,000 members and over a quarter of a million posts and only a handful of either have caused any problems.

Geez, I've been away for awhile, what circumstances caused these changes to come about?

I accept these rules

Hey guys, I think the strike rule is a good idea but I have a question. I doubt it's likely but IF for example I get into an argument with another forum member and I end up getting a strike, will it count forever or does a strike expire after, say, a year or so if I don't make another misstep during that period?

I guess the right thing to do is if you feel it's getting like that, take a step back, breath and either say nothing thing or take it to PM. But, a Strike is for life and to be honest, if you have more than one, you should be taking a good look at yourself. You'll be fine any ways, I wouldn't class you as a trouble maker....lol :)

I have always found the moderators both here in the forums, in the stream on youtube, to be very helpful and fair. They do a great job IMHO.

Nice one, model for fun and share the happy times with each other around the world. Sensibility, good manners and encouragement is all that is needed. Feel the love coming through the plastic therapy.

Well said, because unfortunately this is what it has come too, you have a good thing and there's some knucklehead out there who wants to ruin it for the rest of us.

Rules are rules, sticking to them should not be an issue or a problem for anyone. Glad to see that there is a small dedicated team ensuring that this site forum users stick to them.
Lets all enjoy what we enjoy about our hobby.

Evilcarrot expressed concern about getting a warning if he gets into an argument with someone on the forum.
This has no need to happen!
We should all be able to express our differences of opinion in a polite and respectful manner. Everyone has a right to put over their own point of view without getting drawn into a full blown argument or slanging match.I
Unfortunately it is always a tiny minority with either a big ego or anger related issues that cause problems by trying to force their opinions on everyone else.

Sad but true. Personally I must try harder to add content. I'm struggling to build at the mo due to health but I should be on here more, causing some Stokesy mischief.

Dont give up hope mon General!

Sir, you forget, this is the internet. Some of us keyboard warriors are capable of starting a riot in a phone box! Or as the football manager Sir Alex Ferguson said of Dennis Wise, the player, he could start a fight in an empty room!

I think the problem is that we have such a small core of regular posters now that it becomes more noticeable when a couple of us are awol due to life/health/work/farm/pets etc.

I know my contributions have dropped off over the past month or so for a variety of the above reasons although I'm still checking in every day and will knock the occasional spammer on the head (if someone doesn't beat me to it :) ). I just don't have the browsing time I normally have and know there are a lot of builds I need to catch up on when things settle down again so I'm just skimming at the moment.

Maybe we should spin this out into it's own thread rather than keep ressurrecting the ancient one though? Any thoughts?
