Testors Dullcote advise :....

Hi Guys and Gals

sorry if this has been asked before

Im just about to use testors dullcote for the first time over Mr Hobby aqueous paints.

my questions are

1 is it ok to shake/mix the bottle as there is a milky settlement or should i leave it like alcad aqua gloss
2 IS A 50/50 thinning ratio about right.

Sorry, I am unable to help you much with this one. It has been years since I used that stuff. Last time I used it, I believe that I brushed it on and it had to be cleaned up with lacquer thinner. I'm sure others may have used it through an airbrush and can comment on the thinning ratio.

I would think that you would need to shake or stir it up to distribute the milky settlement in the bottle. One thing I do remember when using this stuff was to make sure that the base coats were fully cured (letting sit for several days to make sure). I remember I applied this over an enamel paint and it wrinkled up like crazy. It may have been due to many factors.

Yes, absolutely mix/shake the Dullcote very well before use.
As for thinning for airbrushing, I don't really measure the mixing ratio but my guess is about 70% Dullcote to 30% lacquer thinner. Of course it will always be a good idea to test first.

I am not putting down the Testor product; I heard good things about it.... but... what is "it" you are modelling ?

cuz if your next step is to Weather the model using Enamel products then... maybe an "Acrylic Dull coat" might be a better choice which would enable you to use the Enamels or oils with turpentine without... any possible ill effects over your Testor dull coat !

Yes shake it to mix it, thin it approx 50/50 with lacquer thinner and spray at about 15psi, job done

@schwienhund227 it will be the final flat coat on a aircraft, all weathering done over a previous alclad 11 aqua gloss cote.

i have a test mule already glossed so will try that first
