I have been looking for a cheap way to get some mud effect on my model. Why did I never think of using real mud? Do you think plain white elmer's glue would work for the white glue?

If the glue is one of the thicker types of white glue then you would need to thin it a little with water and an tiny bit of dish soap (dish soap thins the meniscus or surface tension of the glue/water making it flow better)
I use real dirt, sand, rocks, ground leaves... you name it.
Nothing makes better dirt than dirt.

I use this technique on my tanks and it works really really well. My favourite thing is that it's virtually free and being able to add paints in to change the colour gives it a wide variety of uses. Definitely a great idea and would recommend it.
