Does anyone have any hints, tips or links that might help with how to model an explosion?

I went and found this very one myself about 10 minutes ago. Looks REALLY good.

I think this is the method I will try, just scale it down to 1/72.

No probs Ian, I think it may be the ONLY video for what a model builder may require.
Just maybe use some Super Bright LEDs or quite a few LEDs per explosion, you haven't got to worry about the heat generated then.. It may save you having a

I've also been trying to find some guidance on how to make an explosion for a diorama. I found this on one of the Japanese ( Plamo ) videos. It's the nearest I've found. I asked a modeler ( sometime last year ) on how he accomplished his effects. Needless to say....I was told to go pound sand and figure it out myself. Well...safe to say I never asked him again...LOL

There was another young brother on Scale Model Addict that had a video on blast effects but for the life of me, I can't find it. Sorry

Look around the 6:29 video marker in the clip...that's where he shows an how he made an explosion in water. Pretty neat.

If you want to check on some explosions effects and some how to guides check SCALERAMA YT channel.

They have instructions for some ideas regarding dust clouds, water effects and some others as well, example:

Basically they shape the core of explosion with some plastic or paper elements and then build the effects over with some liquids, polys or something else.

Worth checking for sure.
