Hi Guys ...

My entry in this SiG , Will try to create a 1/48 Diorama using the next 1/48 kits from Tamiya :-)

The main subject will be a PzKmpf.IV AusfH

Image

Other from the PzIV 'family' will be this FlakPanzer IV Wirbelwind

Image

As second players , yet with an important role in the diorama :

A Schwinwagen typ 166 (oh I will regret to place all this crazy names on this build )

Image

This German Halftrack

Image

Some 1/48 Figures ( Panzergreandiers, crew for the little anphibian vehicle ) crew for the tank

Image

Will also use some other accessories from Tamiya 1/48 Range ( Road Sign Set , walls , and so ) .

My idea is to make a diorama somewhere in the initial Ardennes Offensive , in a wood .

Will not be easy to make the three tone German Camo of this period of war in 1/48 , that will be a chalenge, also the camo form the German Uniforms at this scale will be something to chalenge my skils ...

Will start on this soon , as usual give me two or three days to get all dome

:cheers2:

Starting on this build ...

First on the bench will be the PzIV ...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Glued to the box some weights ...this 1/48 is a little different that other Tamiya kits I build , they all have a die-cast chassis ( usually bottom hull ) , not this one ...

Image

Separate flyer with the history and color schemes

Image

All east Europe 1944 ...actually I will do a Western Europe diorama, the color schemes are similar ... will see , I'm not very into making a 100 % accurate diorama ( I mean Unit Badges or specific 'that' PAnzer Division) , so

Image

Instructions :

Image

Starting on the bottom hull

Image

Image

Wheels and the weights at place , really first time to see this in a Tamiya kit on 1/48 scale ...

Image

Image

Wheel crazy :-)

Image

Image

Tracks ...in 1/48 the palcing of tracks is something hard , in the way that I really place them first and paint all afterwards ...I didn't find a beeter techniche yet , but I find very hard to do this in other way ...well you could paint bottom then go and paint tracks and glue them ...I find that harder to do , so I do my usual way , even the rubber on the road wheels I paint always afterwards ...

Image

About the tracks if you notice you must do this in some order step 1,2,3,4 ...

Image

The tracks if well placed (watch carefully track direction! ) make a nice effectin this small scale , you get the weight effect on top and on the rear whell , very traditional in all the PzIV variants ...

Image

other side done

Image

Watch direction and very carefull doing the other side that it isn't in the instructions , you get easily wrong ( I can say this as Already make some confusion doing a StugIII  )

Image

Starting turret and gun

Image

Image

first and before the turret instructions is the Schurzen supports...well I will skip this one , because first I will paint the 'interior' , for saying so , and later will place the support and the Schurzen afterwards, and will paint them seperately , think it is the right aproach here ...will be hard to build all and paint the details of the tools and everything with the skirts done .

Image

Image

The turret is now complete, just follow instructions another Easy Tamiya kit to do with no issues ...(some very small parts in this scale , but not the kit fault ! ), the gun support , doesn't seems very nice, a big gap , and I think I didn't make a mistake , is just like this , not very nice to see

Image

it even seems not very straight

Image

Another step in the instructions delayed , the turret skirts ...after I paint all the tank , then will paint all the skirts and supports ...

Image

Looks like a PzIV , maybe J version :-)

Image

Image

When I take this photo I noticed this opening in the rear ...

Image

Yes I forgot something in the instructions ...

Image

Image

B22 in step 11 , in this step you get to place all the tools in the tank ...and as I will do all painting after the main colours , I miss this piece, so ...

Done, looks better now !

Image

Image

To paint and once again no primer or airbrush (for now ...) Main base colour TS-3 Dark Yellow from Tamiya

Image

Image

Image

Image

Now and tomorrow some Airbrush doing the three colour scheme , with the Green and Red colours ..I must check on Internet some schemes , but MAybe I go for a similar that it is in the kit , small stripes with red and Brown ...

See you next , and hope you enjoy the build so far...

:cheers2:

Quick update on this ...

After I painted all little tools ( the ones on the sprue I painted then there , as I Must make the camo paint first on the tank ) yesterday before sleep , today I arrived home and before dinner full of will to make the paint with the XF-61 Dark Green and XF-64 Red Brown to make the camo on the tank ...

and the result :

Image

Image

Image

In my opinion , it is more or less ok ...it was airbrushed free hand , in some places I get more thick spots , but overall it looks nice, so placed all the tolls and accessories

Image

Image

Also some stuff is in the tank upper hull and you should paint it on the tank hull ...went ok

Image

Image

Nice little kit !

Image

Painted the rubber part on the wheels ...

Image

and get to start on the Skirts supports

Image

Image

Nice , it is a very nice kit ...

Image

right side ...

Image

And already was ready to go to the diorama :-)

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

For today that's it , now to spray all the skirts and extra armour of the turret and their supports , and after to do the camo on those panels ...

tis one almost finished and ready to go to next kit of this build :-)

Hope you liked so far .

:cheers2:

Back to the build, and a looong thread ith a lot done and a lot done wrong :wall:

I get to do some small steps in the builds during weekend and at night , but also I had a very busy week and I was delaying to present a new update ...

so I left the build ( and the thread... ) doing the skirts ...

so turret ...and I do always this to see the correct position ...well you will see that not quite like I mention ...

Image

No issues on the Bottom skirts

Image

Image

Image

And the smart modeller named Antonio say ...oh this stuff is really good ...

Image

I had some dificulties gluing all the skirt pieces ...something wasn't wright !

Image

Probably you already noticed the mistake ...

Image

Nice ... :bash: ... and looking and looking and I didn't noticed ...

Image

Nice Panzer IV

Image

Image

And already with the camo dome on the skirts ...still the idiot (myself ...) didn't noticed ...

Image

Talking about the painting on the camo ...hard to paint this on this scale , I used a 0,2 needle , but to do this camo , could be better to used a 0,15 , maybe ...will try again in a future build , and maybe it doesn't get any better ..

Think it was the correct decision to first paint all the tank and later paint the skirts after glue them ...not an issue or overpaint the body camo , but wasn't an easy job ...

Image

Not totally happy with the airbrushing , the green color sprayed some 'dust' around the main spots , I try using low pressure and a less diluted paint , on the Whirberlind will try to paint it differently ...

Image

And was the time to start on the BIG vehicle of the bunch ...the SChwimmwagen :ooops: , crazy name , but always liked this little vehicle ...

Image

You get one bag with two sprues ...

Image

Instructions ...

Image

True color scheme on the back of the box and some funny example on how the users put this vehicle in water using their proppeller ...in water they steer using the front wheels as rudders , the Gear box was neutral ...nice info !

Image

Two colour scheme ,

Image

Start on this piece of very tiny small microscopic parts ...and I imagine the guys building in 1/72 , they are a sort of watchmakers , Big Respect !:

Image

Image

Image

Image

Crazy stuff this step !

Image

Image

Image

Image

I decided to paint first the two hulls with Dark Yellow , and place the seats after painted them in the sprue ,

Image

Image

Gears sticks and wheel direction also placed ...this stuff is so tiny ...

Image

Wheels added ...

Image

and also the cover ...

Image

with no flash on the camera ...you know me always threads with TOP Quality pictures ...kidding...

Image

Image

exhaust ...

Image

So to paint everybody , I now start on this one , after I paint the small accessories for the Schwimmy

Image

Nice kit with a lot of infantry accessories for only two figures, you get a full sprue with a lot of MP44 , Panzerfaust ...Bags ...and so on ...I'm collecting now all this stuff in 1/48 , the kits came with a lot of this small gear for infantry

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Chassis with no metal parts or weights , all plastic this one ...

Image

a lot of wheels

Image

must have attention to how they are placed ...but in the end another good kit from Tamiya

Image

Tracks ...I'm getting more tracks than I want on this build ...

Image

went well

Image

Image

Interior ...full extras ...

Image

Image

Would have to have on of this to go to work in the morning ...

Image

Very good storage space ...low fuel consumption and nobody would mess with you in Traffic

Image

Image

This is the radio , must painted before as there are some decals to place

Image

Strange Direction Wheel position

Image

Leather for the seats ..as I mention this is a Luxury Van

Image

Radio for some music , Mp4 with Bluetooth

Image

Top speed ...really don't know ...

Image

The Boy and his grown brother

Image

Image

Painted ...this was an hard thing to do in such small vehicle !

Image

with all the stuff at place

Image

Image

Image

Image

the Mtk.SPW.Sd.Kfz.251/1 Ausf.D ( yes I wil call him the Half Track ...)

Image

Image

Image

Image

The three side by side ...and going to decals

Image

The Half track ready !

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

A bucket ...

Image

Wirbelwind ...

Image

Image

Metal chassis this one ...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Wheels ...

Image

Image

Image

Tracks ...more of the same and same buildig proceadure , in this the lower hull is identical as the -tank as it is the same base , as obvious, main differences are small hatches on righ and left front side and some cases for spare gun barrels

Image

Image

Must use screws to fix the upper hull to the metal chassis ...

Image

Image

Image

Gun

Image

I make some tiny holes using my trusty hand Pin vice in the guns to make them more real , as they haven't any detail

Image

Image

Image

another carefull build step this one ...

Image

Image

Figures ...will do them later ...

Image

Indecisions ...to place and paint all interior or to make a first Spray with Tamiya Dark Yellow without gluing the two turret armour pueces ...

Image

Yes I will do like that so off we go to paint it

Image

And I will do more stuff , but this weekend is my Local Hobby exhibition and will be there most of the tome spending some quality time and also taken and getting my works there , it is important to participate and always nice to see some of the NAtional best here live and not trough FB

Ohhh do you get the mistake ? Yes the front skirt on the Tank Turret are upside down I noticed when I was doing the decals ...what I did was to use another kit that I have around of the same model and took the Skirts , done it again proper and will place some pictures after , I tried to remove them , but no way ...Tamiya make a great job depicting the right thickness of armour on this one and the plastic riiped apart while I try to took it , the turret was ok , and gald that I had the other kit ( and I can use it doing a normal PZ.IV with no Skirts ...) ...I'm going now to paint it with the Whirberlind ...Taht's it ...sometimes building is though and if you are tired it is good to spend time in the bench but not to do some steps on your builds :-)

Thank you for watching ! Hope you like , fell free to comment !

See you soon ...with 1/48 Figure painting in Autumn/Winter German Fashion in three tones and expect to have the Flak Tank Ready and painted !

:cheers2:

yes , nice little kits , I saw one in 1/6 scale in my Local Hobby show last weekend , and still impressive vehicle no matter the scale , well mine in 1/48 near that it is about a quarter size of the wheel of the 1/6 scale

Another update , last weekend I wasn't able to do much on this build , this update is the work during the week , and tring to relax from a very busy week at my work ...so here it is , hope you enjoy ...

I noticed that the better option (let's see how good it is ...) was to paint interior details on the Whirbelwind and to paint the figures first, place them in the turret and later to paint hte three tone camo ...

so details on the interior and guns painted ...

Image

Image

And to start on the crew ...

Image

Image

here they are ready for primer ...the guy back there is shouting ...don't know why , only a toothpick is stucked in the foot ...the other are much worse

Image

The two guys from the half tracked vehicle also will go to paint on this batch

Image

Happy bunch ...

Image

Also must do the tank commander so time to open this final kit for this build

Image

A bag of figures and a bag of accesories

Image

Decided to do the midlle one ...seems adequate

Image

this kit also get some panzer Grenadiers , and a lot of nice poses ...they are the same as they tallest 1/35 cousins from Tamiya , but very nice poses

Image

Image

Herr Komandant very attentive in the turret

Image

Image

so join the group

Image

For painting the camo I will try to use some vallejo model colours ...I will try this ones as I always use Tamiya , they are nice , at least for me , but will try to use something different this time !

Image

Image

First colours aplied , it looks as the guys are using a pijama

Image

more paint added ...it looks good

Image

I try to depict the pea dot camo in the backgroud , seems adequate for an autumn/winter scheme togheter with some white camo

Image

Painting the crew

Image

Image

I think it turned out ok the camo at this scale , it is very hard to paint ...

Image

Image

the crew in the turret

Image

Image

Image

The tank Kommandant

Image

Image

Image

Now to think in the diorama , and still must paint that camo on the Flak vehicle nad on the tank new turret skirt ...still not very confident on where to place the Whirbelwind ...maybe on higher griund making a coverage of the road bellow and crossroad ...and still a lot of figures to paint and some more accessories ...already placed something more on the tank commander and on the Half track from some spares from the first figures sprue

Image

Some nice headphones and binnoculars for the tank Kommandat !

Image

Some ammo boxes for the Sdkfz.

Image

So that is it for today , have some spare time for doing some more work this weekend , amking some more figures finishing painting the vehicles and starting making the ground ...

Hope you enjoy !

:cheers2:

So ...more updates on this build ...

I painted the whirbelind camo , do it free hand with airbrush , I just can't use masks ...and I usually paint it hand free , sometimes with not so good results , but in this went ok I think ...

Image

Some 'spots' aren't that nice ...but in the field I suppose that wasn't all as exactly as it is

Image

Image

With all the details

Image

The guy with the binoculars isn't well placed if the turret moves

Image

Image

Figures ...

Image

after some primer painted the dot pea scheme used this vllejo colours and this leaflet with the example ...not very good , could be a lot better , but it is 1/48 and I can hardly paint 1/35 , and really envy the guys that get so much detail in 1/72

Image

With all the gear ...they look a lot nicer , and really great set of figures from Tamiya

Image

Image

Image

Some back seat gear thown there by the Scwimmwagen crew ...

Image

A first layout idea ...will use a chalk board that I buy cheap in the Chinese shop here in my town :-)

Image

Schnell !!! out of the vehicle your lazy guys !

Image

Image

Soo Hans , the americans are over there right ? Yes Herr Kommandant ...they are entrenched just near the village over there !

Image

So... some cork plaques to be glued to define some of the ground ...some white glue ...

Image

Some modelling clay to be used for the road and elevation ground !

Image

Some tracks marks on it using the vehicles done

Image

Image

And a maybe final layout view

Image

With the Pine Trees that I use , they are form Model Scene , and they are nice to use with this scale !

Image

So I painted the ground using Vallejo Model 70983,70826 for the earth tones , 70894 for the green earth tones and 70883 for painting rocks and stone tones , I make some rocks using the remaining Model Clay ...then I used an old wash sponge to make some stone textures and place them in the dio

Image

Some white glue and some scatter that I bought in my LHS

Image

Image

Ended using some Reality and Scale Nature in a pot Pine Forest Scatter and Fine Dark Forest that I have around (already ordered some more as this is great to use and to have around for dios )

Image

Finish with the trees placed in the dio , now to have some mud and snow , to weather the vehicles ( I dind't done that yet ...) and to start finishing this diorama , very happy with the result so far ! :-)

Thanks for watching it !

:cheers2:

new and last update...took advantagethat today was an holliday here in Portugal , so I get to do almost all the diorama ...

For doing the weathering I used some Abteilung 502 oils ...I use their set ( actually stil was Mig productions set ) for German camo ...

Image

Also some Dark Iron with a sponge to make some chipping here and there

Image

Image

Image

Image

For the oils I place them in a cartoon , so that the 'grease' from the oils can be 'sucked'

Image

Place some dots all over the camo ...

Image

And after with some thinner and an brush I do vertical movements until I get the right tone and fadding

Image

Also use some washes for pannel lines and some rust ...I'm not an expert ...but here it is the final result

Image

it is much better than as it was at beggining , I do this for all vehicles

Image

Image

all ready !

Image

Image

The dio ...using this type of clays can get you that it cracks when driying ...but for me not an issue as it will get some plastr on top mixed with paint and pigments ..so ..

Image

Image

I added some pigments and do some weathering using pigments and fixer on all vehicles

Image

Image

Image

Image

Like this before getting some snow ...

Image

For the snow ...I do not have very much good experiments in adding textured snow , still for now I will use this snow from reality in scale as I do not want to go heavy on the snow

Image

I also took a sign from this 1/48 set from Tamiya that I have ...

Image

The sign painted ...

Image

And I'm ready for the final reveal ...still I could add some snow , but really I'm not in the mood and0 I like it like this depicting some scene just before the big snow falls in 1945 Winter .

:cheers2:
