Acryllic matt varnish

Post by Avgas »

What's the latest 'must have' acrylic matt varnish? I'm trying to go all acrylic, mainly for pong purposes. I'm using alclad 2 matt coat at the moment which is great stuff but stinks the garage out and I noticed it's the only non acrylic stuff I use, so thought I may as well go the whole hog and be completely acrylic.
Regards, Dave.

I use AK interactive's Ultra matte varnish
It is good and works pretty fast when you use the airbrush as a blowdryer
Something i tend to do when the model isn't very big

What would you say is the 'dry to touch' time on it Mark?

When you just leave it to dry i would say about 20 minutes
But with some help of the airbrush it takes about 1 or 2 minutes depending on the area you try to blowdry
But the thickness of the layer is important as that influences the drying time and if it is way too thick it can even turn out glossy

I've never sprayed the Vallejo, I've brushed it on and it works OK. What does it spray like?

I'm with Mark. The AK Ultra Matte is very good indeed, sprays easy without thinning and gives a very nice matt finish.

Anyone know where I can get AK Ultra Matte in the UK? Everywhere I've looked seems to have no stock.

Thanks in advance!

On a sidenote:

I've never gotten along with Vallejo's Gloss, but their Matt sprayed with an airbrush works wonders
