Tamiya Polishing Compound

Post by Marzoo »

Just bought all three types of Tamiya Polishing Compound. Can someone advise on when to apply it? is it only applied after the painting is complete or do you apply it after primer coat?

Hey Dave, I'm no pro and I can only offer up what works for me but, I only polish my primer when I am going to do a high gloss shine like a metallic finish or a Gloss Black that requires a smooth surface. I find that when I do the prep work for these types of coats it helps with orange peel. The smoother I can get the primer the smoother my color coats will look. If i don't want to see my reflection in the top coat then I don't bother to prep my prime job. I hope this helps.

Ya, The secrete is to get a smooth finish, Any orange peel or roughness that you have in you primer will be amplified with that type of finish. I even go so far as to buff it out with a polishing sanding stick. If you have the patience it will show in your final product.

Good Luck, I cant wait to see how it turns out
