Academy Replacement Parts

Does anyone have information on getting replacement parts for Academy models. I have their F-14A Sundowners model I bought. When I got it home and opened it, I found Sprue D was missing from the box. The box was factory sealed. I took it back to the hobby shop, but they would not give me a refund. I really want to build this, since it cost so much. Any help would be deeply appreciated. I live in the USA.

Thanks,

Why aren't they giving a refund? They've sold you an incomplete product, surely you're legally entitled to one?

If in U.K. You are legally entitled to a refund or replacement. If in US pretty sure you have the same rights.

Sadly, no. Operators can set their own return policy for the most part, though consumer protection policy can vary state to state.

You know how on Star Trek each alien species represents some facet of human society? We're Ferengi; US style capitalism is represented by Ferengi.

Is there another shop around that can help? Academy kits aren't too common on US shelves, but maybe they'd be willing to help you with getting a replacement. Most businesses love to ride in like white knights when a competitor screws you over.

I find that completely outrageous, I agree people shouldn't expect a refund if they change their mind, but I can't believe consumers are not entitled to a refund if the vendor sells faulty products (which in effect this is)

That's not cool.
Firstly, what parts does sprue D hold?
And secondly, let me tell you how I dealt with a similar situation.
I built the same model, and during construction, spilt tenax glue over a couple of parts, resulting in total destruction.
I had no luck whatsoever in getting any joy out of academy or the local agents.
I then had a brainwave, and contacted eduard who use the same moulds for their f4's.
In no time at all, I had response and they were happy to assist.
In short order, they mailed the entire sprue even though I only needed two parts.
They are a very helpful lot!
Give it a bash.

I hope I'm not too late in response. Model Rectifier Corp is the main distributor of Academy kits in the States. You can contact them for replacement part services. I've dealt with them twice before and both were positive experiences.
