Paint Callouts when buying online

Post by markc1290 »

Hi there,

I have been wondering in this age of online shopping, do you choose paints at the same time as a kit and if so how do you know which ones to purchase!

I have not found anyone other than the Airfix site so far, that lists the paints required on the items webpage. I appreciate the effort for someone to have to list this for every single model, on every retail site, but if one does not have a full range of paints, does that then mean one order for the kit, then another one for the paints once you have been able to read the instructions.

what do my fellow ISM members do?:

Cheers,

Mark

I try to make sure I have the paints I needs but I tend to miss one or two colors when buying stuff. At the moment I can only paint raf aircraft as I need to top up my paint stocks :)

I just bought Tamiya's whole range to defeat that problem, but you have to mix paint to get what you actually need. Sets are available for some subjects from other maunfacturers.

Mark you can go to sites like Scalemates which often have the instructions, so the paint call out also, available as a PDF to view or download. Online sales site BNA World lists paints for most of the Tamiya kits its sells (Tamiya paints only of course). And generally searching the web I can find the paint call outs for most stuff.

It's a great resource. I even use it to check the paint instructions from other manufacturers' versions of the kit i'm working on - to make sure I'm not potentially missing anything!
