Model Factory Hiro Williams FW16 San Marino

Have had this kit in my stash for the best part of 8 years, and must admit was a bit reluctant to build it, given the subject is for the very car that Senna was killed in, and it seemed a little ghoulish, but having been following Patrik's superb thread on his Fujimi Williams FW16, decided it was time to have a go at mine.
The kit is a mixture of white metal, resin. photo etch, and turned aluminium, there is also material provided for the seat belts, an excellent set of decals including the Rothmans markings.
Today I have cleaned up all the metal parts, using a fine wire brush in my Dremel, and various files and wet& dry paper, when clean up was complete I primered the engine, gearbox, and some of the suspension components, including some of the photo etch. This was all primed using an etch primer, the engine was then sprayed with Vallejo Aluminium metalizer. The nest stage will be to assemble the remainder of the engine and gearbox, and make a start on the suspension.

I have the Ferrari 126CK and have only fondled the gorgeous box and parts without thought of actually starting the kit.
So now I can live vicariously through your build

Just a small update, carbon decaled the drive shaft covers, and added a few more etch bits, next job will be the start of the wiring on the engine and gearbox, and detailing some of the electronic boxes that will go on the side pods.



That's all for now, will hopefully get some time over the weekend to do a bit more.

Another small update have built up the rear suspension and gearbox, and added some of the basic plumbing and wiring, now waiting for some more carbon decal to arrive, so that I can crack on with the floor tray and side pods. Hopefully stuff will arrive soon.

Very nice gary ?what color did you use for the exhust . I been useing ak steel but its got a blue tint which i dont like.been trying to get a burnt tarnish effect but finding it difficult.

Hi Paul, the exhausts are white metal in the kit so I polished them with a brass wire brush in a Dremel, I then gently held them over the gas ring on the hob so that they went a natural heat tarnish, then polished them again then sealed them with Alclad Aqua Gloss.
For plastic exhausts I use a polished aluminium or even chrome, to get the blueing effect I use eye shadows from a cheap eye shadow make up set, I make a paste from the purple and blue eye shadows, using Tamiya thinners to break them down, I apply this paste with a cotton bud, and rub it into the surface, wipe off any surplus, I then repeat the process but using various shades of browns and black just repeat until you achieve the desired amount of heat staining, I then seal it all with a light coat of clear.
Hope this helps, will photo the eye shadow set so you can see what sort of colours are in it, I think I paint about £4.00 for it from Super Drug.
