Hi I have just used the Olive & Gelb primer I got from the Telford show, primed 17 figures, 3 vehicles all with my trusted hairy sticks and I give both 10/10 well done Paul & Co.

Hey Pete

Is it possible to use them as a base coat or are you planning to use them just as a primer and paint over them? I use Ultimate black primer on my AFVs but if these can be used as a base coat then its a step saved.

Hi I'm using them just as a primer and painting over.The Olive Green I think could be use as a base coat, I'm going to give it try and see but I'm not a paint guy, as you know I'm a hairy stick man.

To be 100% I would probably ask Paul or one of better paint guy's, I'm certainly no expert ,I'm still at the cave painting by numbers stage

Did you have to thin the primer? Also, what pressure and needle size did you use?

Hi very slightly, this is how I work,it works for me I don't know if it is right or wrong? I thin my primer with a very very small amount of distilled water .As for what pressure/ needle,I don't use a air brush I use a old fashioned paint brush or as I call them hairy sticks I have serious health condition, the main one being that I have severe Emphysema, sorry I was not any help.

No apology needed my friend! Have you tried it without thinning? What makes it work better for you after you thin it? I recently bought the full line from Ultimate but I haven't used it yet so I'm just trying to get as much info as I can.

It shouldn't need thinning for airbrushing and is made to be sprayed unthinned

As Paul said, sorry if I have confused anyone, I'm a caveman when it comes to paint & airbrushing as you can tell by my results thats why I stopped posting builds.

Hi Paul

With the release of Olive and Gelb are you advocating their use instead of a base coat? Ie, spray the Gelb primer then spray the green and brown camo on top?

I can attest to the fact that Ultimate primer goes down very well un-thinned with a good old fashioned hair or synthetic brush. I do all my small pieces that won't be touched that way.

Even our "failures" aren't "wrong" so long as we learn from them and the plastic model didn't explode. If you do have a model explode I would suggest changing your hobby to stamp collecting.

You've not mislead anyone pete mate

I find Ultimate primer stunning as a primer, I do not thin it and get absolutely amazing finishes with it, and that is all the colours, I use an IWATA HPC plus that has a 0.3 needle, sprayed at 25psi. never had an issue, just make sure to shake it, mix it well and you should have ZERO issues

LOL! I actually did get to hand-paint some parts with the Grey Ultimate primer this weekend and it does go down very smooth. I might actually try a 1:72 scale model and only use brushes. Sometimes messing with the airbrush is such a hassle I don't even bother doing any work lol!
