Hi all, I'm looking for suggestions to make jet engine exhausts look more realistic. I've painted them gunmetal at the moment, but I know they need some weathering of some kind. Any advice of products and techniques?

I would look to AK Interactive extreme metals or the AMMO by Mig Jimenez range.

If you're looking to weather what you've already done I would do a dark wash to pick out all the detail and then dry-brush using a lighter metal colour such as aluminium to pick out the raised sections. Don't over do it though, you want to 'infer' colour difference, not go too far.

Thanks guys. I wouldn't rule out restarting if the result will be better.

It's worth looking at pics of the actual thing as well. Some have very distinctive colours/patterns that really help with realism. Don't forget to do the insides too, a lot of jets have a whiteish oxide? build up on the inner surfaces. Pigments can be great for weathering jet exhausts. Hth
