Varnishing reduced pigments effects

Hi Guys

I've just finished off my Panzer IV and I think the varnish coat has reduced the dust effects I had created with pigments. Is there a way to avoid this in future? I'm thinking maybe the pressure blew some of the effects off the kit's surfaces.

Any thoughts?

Why did you apply a Varnish over pigments in the first place ? (asking nicely btw...)
isn't that the last layer effects you put on ? or did you intend to add even more weathering effects "over" or "next to" the pigmented areas ?

a Pigment fixer might be a better way to set those in place and avoid that washout or blending effect you've got. it takes a long time to apply as it is done by wicking effect...

I figured I needed to varnish the kit as I was worried about handling it and the stuff coming off. On further research people do varnish over pigments but its mostly gamers, not static display modellers. Looks like I've just wasted some varnish and its back to apply some more pigments!

and as a word of caution... test your varnish with your pigments... on the side first and let completely dry...
if there is no reaction ! then you are golden.... but if there are changes in colour or *turning white* ... then you know your pigments and varnish are incompatible... and therefor you didn't spoil your hard work ! just saying ! take care.
