Dipped Canopy Gone Wrong!

Hey Guys-

I've done this several times and have never had a problem. I dip a canopy in Future, let the excess drip off, put the canopy on a piece of paper to absorb any leftover excess, and put all of this inside an air tight container and set aside for a couple of days to let dry. After two days I open the container and out comes a beautiful canopy...except this time. This time I saw that some of the excess future did not drain off the canopy and, in fact, dried into pools around the canopy. So, I need to know how to remove the dried Future from the canopy without ruining it. Also, is there a better product than Future for canopy dips?

Hey Joe.

Isopropyl alcohol should not hurt your clear canopy and removes the Future. But please try on a sprue (if possible the one, where your canopy was connected to) before. I would try to wash it off with a soft brush.
I also use Future to get the shine on canopies, I am quite sure there are other hints and tips around?

I had that happen a couple of times, so I stopped using it. I just polish them now with Ultimate buffers and car polish/cloth.

I'd be interested to know if the ipa works though, I don't have any to try it with. I'd like to go back to dipping them, as its quick and simple!

I had a similar problem but on just a small spot on a canopy. I sanded it with a 3200 grit and polished it with Tamiya compound. That solved the problem.

I dipped the canopy in 90% IPA and used a cotton bud to clean it up. It looks like I succeeded in clearing up the canopy so I'm happy about that! So, do most of you prefer sanding over dipping in Future? I might give that a try but using Future is so easy (until something like this happens...then it's a lot of work!

Ok, do you paint the canopy before or after a dip or polish????
I am almost at that step in a Phantom build

I dip and polish it first. You could paint and then dip but i have never tried it. I think if you dip it after then there is a chance of future building up on the edges where paint starts instead of flowing and getting absorbed on the paper.

I always let my Dipped canopy firstly dry on a Kitchen Towel folded so it literally sucks off the excess Future/Klear.

I then always place them in a tin with a sponge also allowing it to be sucked off but at the same time stopping the dreaded dust particles gaining access to the canopy.
