1/48 AMK Mig-31BM

Post by RocketSurgeon »

Hey guys, I'm new to this board and this is my first WIP on the forum.
AMK's giant Mig is an absolutely beautiful kit. I'm building it OOB, gears up and refueling probe extended as it would appear lining up behind a tanker.

I used AKAN 73005 for the interior. I'm not really satisfied with how the pit came out, but not much will be visible once the canopy is closed.

Cockpit in place. I still have to finish the instrument panels and seats.

After some careful dry fitting, the gear doors closed up beautifully even though they were designed to be built in the open position.
Image

I tried to simulate carbon deposits on the exhaust.

This is where I'm at with the beast at the moment.

Thanks for looking.
Cheers, Peter

Hi Pete, it is a beast alright. I've got one in the stash but it's a bit intimidating, I can hear it now...laughing....
Yes.. It is supposed to look like that!

Don't let it scare you Tim! It's a very large aircraft, but it goes together really well. The last pic of my previous post shows the main components dry fitted only. The fit is so good, that they basically click together.

Thank you guys! Tiny update on the cockpit. I painted the instrument panels. Normally I'd add decals to the dials, but again, not much will be visible once the canopy is in place.

Nice looking beast. What color did you use on the pit?

Looking great! I just picked up the B/BS version and cant wait to get started. Do you have any suggestions for against Akan paints? They might be tough to get here in the States, but I'm interested in giving them a shot.

The AKAN paints are top notch. They go on very nicely and even brush beautifully.
You're going to love this kit, it's probably one of the best injection molded kits around. I'd love to crack on with it, but the brass profile I want to use as a stand for the model still haven't arrived. I can't glue the fuselage together until I make the mounting point for the stand.

Looking forward to seeing this done Peter!

Thanks for the headsup on SMCG on the wheel wells...what pilots are you going to use? Im thinking of getting some Aerobonus Su-27 ones with ejection seats?
