Hi guys!!!

After posting some of my work and receiving such great feedback ... I got the "guts" to post a BAD work !!!
This will always be a reminder to never do that mistake again !!! Unfortunately there aren't photos of the concluded model in the base but... I really want to show u all that not all things came has you expect!!! And sometimes the more obvious stuff is the one that you neglect !!!

Another thing.... on top of that ... this is my favorite plane !!!

Boxart
Image

A very easy to build model...

boxart and contents
Image

Basic cockpit (truth be told you cant see anything throw that plastic glass!!!
Image Image

After that...
Masking and glueing the canopy (tip : when masking a canopy always use a "fresh" X-ato blade)
Image

After a bath of tepid water and dish washer its time for primer
Image

The model fits pretty well but with a lot of bondage (clamps) it fits marvelous... no need for putty and sanding!!
Image
Image Image
More Bondage....
Image

Exhausts... nose... rudder... checked!
Image
Image
Image

How am I going to do this??? I know ... flying... very very high...
"Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for I am at 80,000 feet... and climbing"
Image
Image

Base coat of Vallejo black
Image Image

Well it needed some sanding after all !!!
Image

Weathering the panels I decided to do a "reverse pre-shade" hihiihihih !!!!
Image

Time for the final black !!!
Homemade black ...Tamiya XF-1 (Flat Black) X-1 (Black) X-69 (Nato Black) ... very very verrryyyyy thinned!!
This was one of the most painful airbrushing sessions I ever made !!! I can still remember the wrist pain I had for days!!
Image Image

The reverse pre-shade might seem a little aggressive, but after the varnish it will smooth out!!
Image
Image

Time for coat of gloss varnish... for better applying the decals

The work was going fine... had some wrist pain but... "no pain no gain"

and after all this... it just whent sour ... really fast... really bad !!!

Time for some decals!!!
Image Image

The red line marking the "no step" areas is a decal... I know why but the decal was all messed up, the film got separated... its a litle hard to explain (my english is awfull) but if you see the pics you know what I mean !!!
Image
Image
Image

With some patience , a fine brush and tamiya XF-7 i started correcting the line
Image
Image

For a better finish I repainted with tamiya X-7
Image
Image

Time for a satin coat of varnish... and DONE!!! Sorry but no pics on the base!!!

Now... can you spot the big mistake I made????

I can see an easy fix to the problem... overpaint with black and apply another decal the same size. Hope this suggestion helps :)

It's still a good looking kit and excellently painted :) We can blame the Yanks for not having the right insignia ;)

Even with the little boo boo it is still a great looking model! I like the blackbird, I was fortunate to see one once on the ground, unfortunately never got to see one fly, but still cool never the less. Even better because it was back in the day when they were operational, and not parked in a museum.

Still looks cracking though mate, nice build indeed!

I saw you had a 1/48 Bone, that is one model I would love to have, but hate to paint! lol. Getting that right shade of dark grey, and making it look natural would be a pain, thankfully its a matt colour, but still!

Still better than I could do mate, awesome looking '71.
Which does give me an idea as I have the Monogram SR71 in my stash and I might dig it out for the Cold War GB.
UMMMMMM
Nothing says Cold War like a Spy Plane.

Excellent work. I love the reverse pre-shading effects on black. As for the error, oh well. Don't point it out and people may not even notice.

Cheers!

still looks awesome.

I'd be tempted to work on it.

Maybe a what if strike by a 'new' Russian SAM, that just happens to have hit it where the insignia is
boom.jpg
I'm sure you could do a realistic explosion.

I'm sure you can correct the very minor error of the insignia... :) It is a great looking aircraft model.. but when I saw the real thing in a museum here in the UK I was surprised at how small it is, really..

Still, it will always be an iconic aircraft and your model does it good justice.. :)
