Am I the only one that does not wash the parts before starting? I know I probably should but when I'm ready to build I don't want to wait for the plastic to dry!

Nope never bother and don't have a problem, unless you building 30 year old kits that may have some old release on them it doesn't need doing

Never have, apart from resin, but only if it feels 'greasy'.

If I ever noticed release residue on the sprues, I'd give them a cleaning, but I've never seen that.

By the time a kit has been assembled, it has gone through a lot of handling anyway.

I've never needed to wash any of the kits.So far!

Did it once but couldn't tell of any difference!

I used to, back in the dark ages 70s I'm old remember, but not now apart from resin parts I still wash them

I still do and I'm old school too, just a habit with me, I also wipe the built model with IPA before painting.

I do, but only because sometimes the paint when I use a brush sometimes doesn't cover . It tends to draw back in places. I have wondered whether I should use a little dish soap..

Apparently mold release hasn't been in use for years, so while it was a thing to do in the past, its not now. *

Never have. Just give completed sections a quick clean in isoprop before priming. But that is more to remove my finger prints.

The only time I've seen some mold release or at least what I think it was, from a kit from Alan models. It felt soapy/oily but it was easy to clean so it was not silicone based so I had no problems laying down primer. The kit was a nightmare though but that's an another story...

Yes, me too, kind of .
I dont wash with soap but use isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wiped with a cotton 2x2 after all my putty and sanding before the primer goes on.

heard of a guy who washes in soap and vinegar. Sometimes soap doesn't remove it all. Does it work...I'm yet to try it, but I will on older kits.

I always wash in warm water with a bit of washing up liquid. But that's just habit!

I wash my parts in the sink once a week whether they need it or not. Oh are we talking about the same thing?

I was gonna go that route, but have to avoid the pervert reputation for professionalism

Well there is always one in the crowd. I wash each kit before I start, I also soak the PE in cedar vinegar (supposed to help the paint stick). I just don't feel like taking a chance that there could be something on the plastic that effect how the paint is going to sit on the plastic.

I always tell myself that I should but when you're in the mood you don't feel like stopping to wash.
