Global Scale Modeller

Well this it I have been lured over to the dark side of Gundam modelling. First off I know absolutely nothing about this subject and chose the following model because it looked good and was cheap!

Here is what I have chosen to build for my first ever Bandai kit and Gundam subject.

It's a RHM-79 'GM' E.F.S.F. Mass Productive Suit in high grade 1:144 scale.



Can't really tell you much more as everything is in Japanese! But here are the few English details from the box

Love the multi colour sprues and the quality of the moulding looks fantastic. Really looking forward to this build.

Instructions are very clear even if they are in Japanese





Should also add that this was planned to be a father and son buddy build with my ten year old who also got a kit for Christmas but he's slower and more easily distracted than me so I thought while I had some spare time I would get ahead of the game.

And I cannot belive how quick and easy these kits go together I had a couple of hours on Thursday night I'm the hangout with Paul and Co. During which I got the little fella built, so quick I forgot to take photos when doing it.







I do plan to paint and weather etc and that's the bit I'm.looking forward to.most but still.cant get over the speed of this build and the quality straight out of the box. Very impressed.

Hi Nige it's my first Gundan as well, they do go together very quickly as you say, good luck with the painting and weathering looks good so far.

That's slick! There's a whole Gunpla subculture dedicated to GMs (or "jims" as they say). And it's a great kit to build with your boy. Done a few petit'gguys with my daughter.

I'm making this up ad I go song but planning on taking it all apart to glue main parts together before priming. Even for a small kit it's a lot of parts..



I wouldn't mind some advice on the chest piece. Do I glue and prime the lor and then made before paint or s there a way of doing it as separate pieces?

Do you mean painting the upper and lower chest separately? if so you may be able to cut off the locating tabs on the lower chest and then slide it into to upper part after you've assembled and painted it.

Yep. You could leave it intact, but the usual problem is there might be seam lines that you'll want to fill on the upper torso. To do that it has to be assembled and you have a choice, either assemble completely and do some very fiddly masking off for the upper and lower parts or, as Cardboardzach says, nip the locator tabs off so the torso is in two separate but complete pieces.

It's up to you, I actually built the same kit he's doing in that vid but I didn't nip the locators but opted for masking.

Been a while since I posted an update bit I have been plodding along with the build. I just keep forgetting to post any pictures or even take any. Anyways let's try to get up to date. After getting everything primed in black Ultimate primer, thought I would try a bit of black basing...



But after trying to paint a few bits.



I realised that I'm a bit poor at that technique so decided to respray and revert to panel lines etc. Or what ever it would be called on a giant mech thingy.



Well after that I stayed to forget to take any pictures, I blame Paul etc in the hangouts for all the distractions. But tonight I have managed to get a Ultimate farm sorry each on over a x-22 gloss coat and also a bit of dry brushing and sponging for a bit of extra wear and tear...











Anyways I think it's almost there, just some hands and fun to do, then a matt or satin coat - input from anyone would be helpful here.

Yeah, what Skullfish said; you've done excellent work for a first outing on this. I am a fan of your color work and the weathering on it looks right for the scale. Take a bow on that!

At this point the only input I'd have to give might be to take the arms and legs off for a topcoat so you can get all the surfaces without going crazy

Woah, I have totally forgotten to update this thread. Finished the little fella a good few weeks back and popped him on the shelf. Have been meaning to take some pictures ever since and must make sure I do tonight when I get back in from work!

Must say a big thank you to organising this SiG as it has opened up a whole new genre of models for me to build and they are great kits to play around with the paint and weathering on. Anyways I will get some pictures up in the reveal thread as soon as I get home, be warned it is nothing fancy only the RGM-79 stood guarding my shelf.
