Bloody Big War Rig

I really gotta stop picking big projects... It's a good thing I barely complete more than a couple projects a year or I'd have no space for anything, but in the mean time...

 I'm gonna butcher these things!

More later once I get them open and make a start. For anyone not sure what I'm doing here, or rather trying to do, I'm looking to make something Mad Max inspired, specifically based on the war rig from Fury Road. The kits look pretty damn good and I got them for a good price. And if I do ruin something I can just call it poetic license :th:

Hoping to start soonish but uhh, don't count on it :nena:

This should be pretty cool and lots of fun
You can beat the snot out of it, add tons of pokey bits and weather like a madman.....and it will still look the part

Well I started!

Firstly though the stuff in the kits.

The truck. As expected for 1/25 they're pretty big and full of stuff but there's a bit more than I originally expected thanks to the engine and stuff.
Image
All the sprues. Multicoloured clear parts in here too as well as the chromed parts. I like.
Image
Vinyl tires with metal axles. A nice touch and should be fine with the weight of the kit and all the addons I plan on.
Image
Decals. They're all pretty nice by the looks. My plan here is to use them as usual then scuff/sand/whatever them back.
Image
The cab tub
Image
Clear parts including the one piece cab windows bit. I probably won't use this. It's nice, but it's quite thick and I doubt the glass would last long in an apocalyptic desert. Plus it'd get in the way of cab modifications.
Image
More bits.
Image
Image
Instructions are just a bit of paper folded over. It works though.
Image
Image
Cab exterior and hood. There's gonna be more than a few holes in those by the end.
Image
Oh oh it also has a little paper craft version of the box. Odd, but interesting.
Image

And the box for the tank trailer.
Image
Sprues. Less plastic but bigger bits of it.
Image
Decals too. Ideally I'd have some Australian company decals and if anyone knows of any I'd appreciate it. But I can make do with 'Murican ones. Guess post apoc Americans (especially Texans) would have the same sort of ideas as the Aussies right?
Image
And the tires. Again vinyl, again nicely detailed, and like the rest they're gonna lose a lot of that detail. Everything's gotta be somewhere between "well worn" and "hacked together".
Image
Image
Instructions. Again, a bit of paper.
Image
Image
And by far the coolest part of these, the tank itself is all chrome plated, and very nicely so too
Image
Image
Image
Now the awkward thing about that is I wanna keep the chrome plating in some areas, but make it look like a lot of the chrome has chipped off to reveal the underlying rusting steel. But I'm not 100% sure yet how I'm going to manage that. I could always paint more chrome over top but getting that kind of mirror finish from paint? Probably not going to happen, so basically I'll have to get creative with masking techniques :

Made a start and got the engine done. There's a good bit of flash around the place and the fit requires a little fiddling and the instructions aren't fantastically clear but once you get over those hurdles the kit is quite nice. Some really good surface texture and pretty good detail for nothing but plastic. I might do some extra detailing if I get some reference pictures, we'll see.
The transmission and block. Took a bit of fiddling and sanding.
Image
Then the oil pan underneath and some manifolds and a blower and stuff.
Image
And mostly together, apart from a couple of pieces I simply could not find, yet.

Whew, long post.

Hey everybody who's been following this. Sorry, I meant to post an update ages ago but suffice to say as you can see the project's been on the back burner for a little while mostly due to uni starting back up, work, other commitments and general lack of motivation with regards to modelling. If anyone still wants to see it completed I'm thinking when I get the time I'll chuck up a normal build thread and just plod along with it. One of these days it'll get done :nena:
