Hi all,

Been reading this site a lot for advice and ideas and figured I should jump on in. There seems to be a common trend in people who used to build models when they were younger and are now picking it back up. I'm in the same boat.

I used to build 3-5 models a year when I was a kid/teenager. It was a hobby I picked up from my dad and had fun with. I was very much the typical open the box, glue and paint everything a quickly as possible, forget the decals were soaking and try and place them hours later, then play with the model until I pulverized it, type of builder.

Then college happened, career happened, wife and kids happened, and no modeling happened.

Well now my oldest is 6 and I thought it would be great to get him into it. I bought him a snap tite AH-64 and seeing that I live and work in the flight path of MCAS Miramar I picked up a Revell 1/48 F-18E for myself (although with Navy decals). I set out to take my time building and really focus on details and realism.

Reading this forum has really helped me learn some new techniques that I got to try out. Weathering was something that I had never done before, it's amazing the difference it makes. Did a little dry brushing and a panel wash.

I made plenty of mistakes in the build but those now go into my tool kit for the next builds and the knowledge on how to avoid them. Anyways, great to be here thanks for all the advice and ideas. Here's a phone pic of the F-18E. I'll take some better shots with my DSLR and post to the gallery section later.

Next up, a Revell 1/48 F-15E :th:
