Dragon DS Tracks: Will they fit a Tamiya Tank?

Post by spock1701 »

Greetings, everyone.

I have a question about Dragon DS tracks.

I got a Dragon Panther G kit #6370 for Hannukah, and it came with DS tracks. I also have Tamiya's old, old, really old Panther A kit. I'm building the Tamiya kit for my next project, and I don't want to get an expensive aftermarket set of tracks to replace the god-awful rubber bands (cheapest set I found was $18 US, a bit out of my budget).

I'm going to get a set of Fruils for the Dragon kit for my birthday to spice it up. Could I use the DS tracks from the Dragon kit on the Tamiya kit? That way I could have better tracks for both without spending money on two AM sets.

I appreciate any input you have on the subject. Thank you! :th:

The only difference that could affect fit would be the drive sprockets size and number of teeth. Put one of the drive wheels together and see if the DS looks right wrapped around it, or just put the two tracks side by side and see if all the sprocket holes are spaced the same.

Good news. I fit the tracks to the sprockets and they fit. Surprising since I know that Tamiya sprockets are different from Dragon sprockets. Oh well, ours is not to question why. Thanks for the suggestion, Forbes

It goes both ways too. I had a Dragon Tiger II with DS tracks and I didn't fancy them. I bought a set of independent link tracks by Tamiya and they fitted perfectly. It gives you hope that what you're building is half way accurate if the parts are so similar.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.
