Stuka siren

Post by Magpie2 »

Just going through a dry build of my Airfix 1/48th scale Stuka ju87B-1.
Noticed that there is no Jericho-Trompete sirens included with the kit!
Doing some quick research, it looks like Airfix are correct in omitting them.
Seems like these wind-driven sirens fitted to the wheel spats where only used on the ju87B-2 variant of the Stuka.
Although they where highly effective psychologically, they caused significant drag leading to their removal!
Worth doing the research me thinks!

When building a specialised or specific subject, research is an absolute must in my book. As I am a stickler for detail and trying hard to get my models to look almost realistic at first glance. Good research has saved my beacon on various builds in the past. Instead of unwanted cretique I got praize which is always a bonus in my book.
Damm the glue is getting to me

Cheers, Vleugelmoer.
If it's worth spending time building a kit, then it's worth getting it right.

My mistake!
Even though the sirens are not shown in the build instructions, they are included in the kit.
My apologies to Airfix.
Now I've had a proper look around the kit, it's well detailed and pretty accurate.
Good value for the money.

I was quite disappointed that my Stuka didn't have one. It seemed quite a linked image the diving Stuka and it's siren but yes only one variant ever had. Sort of a shame really

Hi, Timplastic.
It's a pity that your Stuka D is in 1/32 Scale and not 1/48th.
I would have sent you the two sirens I have in the Airfix kit.
There is photographic evidence that the odd ju87D-1's where fitted with parts from earlier variations of the plane. i.e. Exhaust outlets etc, probably later in the conflict when things where getting desperate. This also including at least one squadron re-installing the sirens on their later D variant.

That is a real shame. I had hoped that trumpeter had put them in the kit as an option or for a different variant but no luck
Thank you for the offer
