Grenadier Models - Frost Giant

This will be my entry.
Rather than getting a new figure I've gone for an old one. This dates from 1985, and was from a range of small scale fantasy gaming figures. The figure represents a giant in 25mm scale and so is three times as big. Which means it's 75mm high and should be a good size for painting.
I've given the male figure a wash before this picture to remove any oxidisation. I think I'll focus on that one initially, rather than doing both at once. I might go for a frosty white/blue look rather than the red-hair depicted on the box.

He's going to look fantastic when he's all done.

Here's the female figure after a bit of burnishing to the face. Achieved by lightly scraping with a blunted knife blade, followed by a bit of worn 1200 wet & dry. It takes ages but is worth it for the finer finish, suited to female skin.
The difference in texture to the arms and legs is quite clear now. I'll eventually do all the exposed skin this way, so she's nice and smooth all over.

That's a great technique Sprue.
I hadn't thought of doing that. I may do something similar to Mr. Campbell, but to a lesser degree.
Thanks for sharing that dude.

It's a preparation technique often used on armour and metal parts of weapons. I've extended it to where there is a change in texture, having one smooth next to the rough helps to show the difference quite well. When the paint is on top the smoother parts look naturally thinner, so you can choose to use it to good effect on clothing and equipment.

I'm going for a suitable frosty blue skin look - this fella has natural antifreeze in his blood. Here's the figure with a base coat of Tamiya Medium Blue with a general highlight of Light Blue - applied from above by airbrush. It will be all brush painting from here on.

Very nice indeed.
And the prep on the girly's skin really paid off.
Will remember this next time I do an metal figure.
