Eduard P-47 Thunderbolt "Jugs over Italy"

So, as I'm having a break from my HUUUUUUGE Dragon Wagon and Jagdpanther diorama due to lack of armour mojo I thought I'd have a go at my Eduard Jugs over Italy, which is a re-box of Academy's P-47 Thunderbolt bubbletop version.



Eduard have supplemented the kit with their line of resin and photo etch detail parts, including a full cockpit, wheels, prop blades and spinner.

I started by cutting and cleaning all the resin of their pouring plugs and cleaning the pieces up, it was my first go with resin, found it a bit fiddly to be honest, the messing around making sure the dust is accounted for









There were some tiny pieces such as oxygen pipe, control stick, etc etc that I didn't get photos of, I tried putting the bits together







Next up came some black primer and Mr Hobby H302 which from photos I've found on the internet is about the same colour and some P/E

Next up came the fitting of the assembled cockpit into the fuselage. If truth be told, it was a bloody nightmare, it was to wide so the fuselage halves didn't meet up. Lots of sanding got me to this point,







Once I'd fitted the tail plane I found that there were gaps you could park a bus in, lots of Mr Surfacer 1000 was called for, followed by sanding.





The wings needed some more work to get them to sit properly, so I scooped some plastic away to sort it out





That's where I am at the moment anyway, next up is painting the engine ready to install before joining the wings to the fuselage.

Lovely work on the cockpit, sorry to see you having some fit issues - it will be worth it in the end. I always think the kit seams to be reasonably priced for the nice extras you get in it, will be watching this with interest

Great start out of the blocks with the cockpit, little hiccup with wing fitment but I am sure you shall overcome it.
Have both these "jugs over..." kits so am watching intently

There has been a bit of a snag, I've fitted the wings, which despite themselves went on quite nicely but it turns out the tail is twisted.

I've lined it all up on a straight edge and put a set square against the rudder and it's leaning to one side, meaning the horizontal stabs are all to cock!

This kit (mine at least) is utter garbage, which is where I think this will end up going.

I think (fingers crossed) that I have straightened everything out. We'll have to see how it turns out but it was basically a hair drier and lots of pots of paint twisting and blasting the kit.

Even if it isn't perfect I bet it will turn out splendidly

Right the, after the slight hiccup with the "twist" I'm back at this build, alongside my Eduard Spit.

The engine and cowl have been primed in Badger primer black ready for covering in silver as per the call outs, these needed doing prior to fitting as I wouldn't be able to get at them


The airframe almost complete


U/C is really spindly but the inclusion of P/E brackets is nice



There seems to be a lot of "stuff" underneath this ship but it doesn't take long to get them sorted


That's was it ready for priming, in White ready for pre shading

Good save, I was tempted to bin my latest build because of poor aftermarket fit but decided against it. Pit looks excellent. That fifth photo down looks like a bog seat.

Jugs Over Italy

So, I have finally managed to push the Jug over the finish line, I’ve had real struggle with this build, lack of mojo, lack of interest, focusing on other projects etc, couple all this with the issue of photos on Photobucket and it’s made for a really poor quality build thread. I will hang my head in shame over this.

I’ll add all the photos from the previous posts but not the writing.
















































































































































































I am happy with the overall finish, I’ve heard really good things about Cartograf decals laying down nicely but these didn’t, I don’t know if it was that my Microsol had gone off or what, but they have some nasty bubbles underneath and haven’t confirmed to the contours very well in places.

I’ve done a bit of weathering, but nothing too much, just a steady bit of dust on the wheels and gun powder and exhaust staining.

I’m happy with it anyway
