Tamiya 1:20 ferrari 312T3

Hi all.

After finishing the Tyrrell decided to build the Ferrari 312 T3 as driven to victory by Gilles Villeneuve in the 1978 grand prix of Canada.
The Ferrari had a flat 12 engine which produced just over 500 horse power and had a transfers gearbox which the T in 312T stands for.

I got this kit cheap off flebay its quite a old kit judging by the state of the box and the decals have all gone yellow, managed to kit a new set from Indycals.

I have removed most of the parts off of there trees and primed them, i have made up the engine and the front part of the car that hoses the dashboard and steering wheel and primed the body shell. more soon and thanks for looking.

Made a bit more progress today. Got the paint and gloss coat on the body work, used zero paints red and 2k was used for the gloss coat, sprayed some other parts with Alclad aluminum. The exhausts were sprayed matt white.

Made it as a teen long ago as a Villeneuve fan and it totally hooked me on Tamiya F1 kits
Got this one and a few others in the stash...waiting

There something about old F1 cars, I think it was the age f1 development not all the cars looked the same most of the designs were done with a pen and paper not on a computer.
If you look at the new crop the rules have changed this year but most of the teams come up with the same ideas and the cars look identical.

Man, I just looked at those decals again....holy cow those original ones are beyond yellow
Tomorrow, I am going to pull out my kit and have a look at my kit's decals.....it is stored at work
This is not an inexpensive kit, so good for you if you found it cheap

Kind of weird you posted this build, but I was watching videos by Plasmo Saturday morning about painting a plane with oil paint. I had to stop,click and watch his build of a Ferrari T3 first. Don't know if you have seen it but maybe a bit of inspiration

Thanks for the link Scott, I've seen his work on youtube very talented and you can get some great tips on different techniques.

Heres another update folks. been working on the engine and wheels this week and getting the decals on the bodywork ready for the gloss coat.

I've added the fuel lines and spark plug cables. Engine block was painted with Alcald aluminum and pale gold, then a dark wash was added, i then dry brushed with AK true metal silver. The rear wheels where primed then a gloss black base was applied and then a coat of MR hobby super metallic super stainless, the fronts were done the same but i then sprayed the middle with Alcald pale gold, i then applied a black wash to bring out the detail.









I used the decals i got from indycals the tamiya ones are just to yellow well past there sell by date. If anyone gets decals from indycal the decals are not individual ones you need to cut them as close as you can to the decal or you will have a load of excess film around the decals.

Quick update.

Finished the rear end, added some more detail, cable to the rear light and a wire to the coil.
I used some micro tape and painted it matt black to simulate some clamps around the fuel lines.
