Vallejo's Ultrasonic Cleaning Device

Post by APC227 »

Hoi!

I am thinking about to buy the Vallejo's ultrasonic cleaning device for my airbrush and i have a question about these devices in general. Maybe somebody already has some experience with them. Now i've already made some research and i know a little about how they exactly work. Just a few questions: Are they also effective with clear kotes that are sprayed from airbrushes (in my case Vallejo & AK airbrush kotes)? Do they behave like regular acrylic colors or are there any differences?

Another question would be: Can i throw my airbrush into that device while the colors are still wet (right after spraying) or do i need to wait till the colors are completely dry?

Last but not least: What kind of liquid do you recommend using - specific European (German) products? I don't want to fill that thing with expensive airbrush cleaner all the time.

I'm not lazy or something but this thing could be a time and live saver xD
But who has spare time in these days anyways?

They will remove clear kotes (acrylic) and acrylic pait's wet or dry. You can fill them with water or windshield washer fluid or a mixture or both.
Paints tougher than acrylic might need a more powerful cleaning liquid.
Some parts like the tail cap and airvalve don't need to go in, and you shouldn't strip down the brush and only put in the parts that contact the paint.
The parts will move around a little when the cleaner is turned on and you have to watch that the needle tip doesn't contact the side of the cleaner or other parts or over time you could round off the needle tip. Regular cleaning after each use will take care of almost all issues with an airbrush. An ultra sonic cleaner should be the last resort, when it turns out you missed something in the last cleaning or forgot about the brush after it''s last use.

If you're bent on getting a sonic cleaner; shop around a bit. There are cheaper ones than what Vallejo offers.

Thank you very much gentlemen, that cleared my questions :cheers2:

Yeah, i found out that Vallejo is just using a device from a different company. They just put their label on it and sell it for 20 bucks more, already found cheaper alternatives.

I would also say if you buy a cheap ultra sonic cleaner and go for a budget one be careful with the cheap Chinese ones as they are known to catch fire or fail very quickly so buy from somewhere with a good return policy like amazon etc..

The only important tip i got when i bought mine was to remove the airvalve from the airbrush before you put it in the cleaner
Residue can build up in the valve and cause your airbrush to stop working properly or stop working all together
And it is a right pain in the rear to clean that part if you can get it clean at all
So remove the valve and any other parts that don't need to go in and you are good to go
