Made up bogies assembles & fitted them to lower hull

Removed plastic grills, made new ones from brass mesh and fitted

Modified main gun

Opened up view ports

Is this a re-box of the old (1970's) Monogram 1/32 Lee?? Revell have never done one of their own, and although they mould-share some Academy moulds this isn't the Academy kit.

This kit has the same track link mistake as the old Tamiya ones. The links are not actually connected together as the end connectors are moulded on each link, not between each link. If this is the old Monogram kit I think you might have trouble finding any after-market tracks to fit as the suspension will be slightly longer and wider in 1/32. Airfix 1/32 Lee or Grant tracks should fit, although I recall that the Grant had WE210 "Double I" tracks. These were occasionally seen on British Lees. I know you've started this now, but in 1/32 the Airfix kit is much better. In 1/35, Academy is really the one to have.

I like the British Lees fitted with mud chutes between the bogies and extra rear stowage boxes. I believe the MG cupola was removed and replaced with a split hatch. They might have had the longer gun and welded-up side doors.

Isn't that a pretty heinous mistake to make? I mean, they must have pretty terrible quality control people for that to happen. Or no quality control. Quite frankly, I think that they should hire rivet-counters (not an insult, just an accurate descriptor) like Pete to do their designing for them.

Yes, this is indeed the old Monogram kit. So it dates back to the mid-70's. It's also 1/32, not 1/35. You've given yourself a lot of extra work with this one: a challenge. None of the usual after-market parts, like the RB barrel, will be quite the right size: a bit too small. There are 1/32 0.30" barrels available from Master, and the old - but nice - Armour Accessories jerricans (you still see these on eBay) were always too big for 1/35.

Monogram and Tamiya had little choice about the track error because of the limitations in moulding capability back then. Tamiya's M3's are late 70's. They couldn't mould tracks just connected by the end connectors, they needed to connect the links themselves. Although the technology improved the moulds were never updated. You still get the duff tracks in the Tamiya Lee and Grant today: they could easily have slipped in the tracks from one of their later M4s. Clearly Revell haven't changed the old Monogram moulds either.

That track error is impossible to correct and I don't think 1/35 ones will fit: they might - but they ought to be too narrow for the wheels and sprockets and a couple of links too short. If you were to buy an Airfix kit for the tracks you might as well use the better kit too. But both Airfix M3's had the WE210 tracks, only appropriate to British use.

I wouldn't ever describe myself as a rivet counter, but the track error is fairly fundamental.

Really excellent build, as usual, Pete. Do you make the rivets yourself, or do you buy the sheets with the rivets already on?

Much appreciated, yes I do make my own rivets,I'm lucky enough to have a punch & die set,very handy tool.

To be honest I've lost track of this R-C thing,I don't known if people are calling me a R-C or not, believe me I don't want the title, but it's the general consensus I am, so I might not show all my I do for a while

Whether you are an R-C or not I don't think anyone objects to all the pictures. I know for one I enjoy all the detail you put into your builds. Often we get these kits and they seem simple but its important to acknowledge the complexity of the real thing.

You are a detail builder, and I have never once seen you deride someone else's work (and god knows you've had plenty of opportunities to deride my modest efforts in the past), so you are definitely NOT a rivet counter

Really? Oh, well then my understanding of the word is completely wrong. I just thought it meant someone who, well, counts rivets and adds all that extra realistic detail to a model. Pete, you are certainly not a rivet counter in the critical sense of the word. On the contrary, you are always supportive of other builds and building styles.

Pete I'm far from being a tank builder ,but I know building a kit that lack detailing and can see all the great items you've added I to this kit . Love all the added items and you've spiked my interest in building another tank myself . I'll remain following your builds . Thank you for sharing Mini.

I'm sorry I got the banana thing totally wrong I thought it was a happy dancing banana, Spock has his opinion's right or wrong, as do you and me, as for over reacting and picking up my toys you don't known the full story behind this it's my build my decision.

Yes it is your decision Pete, but I think it's a shame, you're a very fine modeller and I know I'm deinately not alone in enjoying your work and would like to see more.

Thanks for the options my one isn't on that list It would be very easy to pick No2 but hope i'm better than that, but it is lock away, I'm just going to keep my head down "again" and make a mess on my bench

Hi added some tie downs to the top of the stowage boxes and turret, and got the primmer on

As you known I hate my painting, "BUT" this time what do you think please, I'v tried something different I known it's primmer but

As I have always said, your painting is very good. Very smooth with no visible brush strokes. Looks easily as good as any airbrush.

Do you thin your paints at all? Or just use them straight out of the pot?
