Hi All

In line with the current trend, I'm going to try marbleing on my next aircraft. When I came back to the hobby and started using an AB for the first time the pre-shade was all the rage, now it seems black basing is the way to go so being a slave to fashion I thought I'd give it the old college try.

I've seen a few tutorial but I just wanted to check something. If I prime with black, what colours do I use for the marbling on say a standard RAF late war 3 colour European camo scheme (Sky, Grey and Green)?

Interesting. I've primed a few armour models in black then airbrushed a series of thin coats of the main colour making them progressively lighter towards the centre of panels, hatches etc. I've never tried it on an aircraft but from what I gather the process is generally similar.

Thanks Dave. I don't think that's the technique I'm after but I appreciate the reply nonetheless. I'm actually painting a Sherman today so I may try out your method. Its already primed with black so why not eh?

I do like black basing on aircraft but I have not done much of it so still need more practice

My first go at it, I used about 1ml of paint on the underside of the spitfire

I've been doing a different approach to this for the least year to two years now, I prime in black then use that to help shade the paint. I find priming in black also shows flaws in seams etc too. I then come in and fade shade as usual. I've been getting a good effect i think

Thanks Paul. The final look of your Javelin is similar to some of the aircraft I've seen where the black basing approach has been used. Its fascinating to see how markedly different techniques can achieve similar but subtly different results.
