HI Guys this is the first time I've joined in on any builds. Just enjoying the hobby & building for fun,
So here goes. This is also my first aircraft that isn't 1/72 scale, just hope I can do it a little bit of justice.

I'm building Tamiya's 1/48scale Sea Harrier FRS.1
I believe the kit is 30 years old which is pretty nice.

The British Aerospace Sea Harrier is a naval short take-off and vertical landing/vertical take-off and landing jet fighter, reconnaissance and attack aircraft; the second member of the Harrier Jump Jet family developed. It first entered service with the Royal Navy in April 1980 as the Sea Harrier FRS1 and became informally known as the "Shar".[2] Unusual in an era in which most naval and land-based air superiority fighters were large and supersonic, the principal role of the subsonic Sea Harrier was to provide air defence of Royal Navy aircraft carriers.

With my limited knowledge the sprue out of the box looks ok & not a lot of parts, right now this looks a perfect way for me to get started.

Started to paint the engine

Had fun painting the pilot

You're off to a great start! That's a kit I would't mind to build as my first aircraft

I built this kit for the l love tamiya group build
Went well just need to watch when you do the wings making sure the wing wheels are the right hight when the centre under carriage is fitted

Hit a bit of a bump in the road.

I thought I would open up some vents, like most things seemed simple enough. All I had to do was mark out the vents & start cutting some plastic


Didn't go exactly to plan. With the naked eye the vents looked ok, but as I noticed in the photo later not so much..And in my madness I used my Dremel definitely the wrong tool for the job don't know what I was thinking.. No matter know not to do that again, always learning & most important having fun

Some large gaps to fill & smooth, had sanded some panel lines off that I had to fix

Great job with the Pegasus engine and pilot.

A Dremel has too high RPM for plastic, so it has to be used very carefully. I use it myself just to remove material at a safe distance, but for the actual shaping I use needle files and scalpel.
But you did a good job, getting a row of cutouts exactly the same is a difficult task

Getting ready for Priming

I Think primer coat went down ok used Vallejo White


Added the Dash & attached the canopy

Did some preshading With Vallejo Model Air Black


Sprayed the base colour Vallejo Model Air White for the underneath of the Harrier

Masking for the second colour


Wanted to do a good job with this, took the best part of 2 hours, hoping it turns out ok

Sprayed the second colour which was, 3 Parts Tamiya XF24 to 1 Part Tamiya XF8


First time using the Tamiya Stand it helped out so much, Still struggle with my airbrushing technic,but I'll get there just stick with it.

Removed the masking tape, So happy with how this turned out, some over spray to deal with

I started to lay down some Decals, I'm really not good at decals this is one of many things I need more practice with.

So this just happened

Ok so I broke the Pitot tube. So after an while I thought I might be able to replace it with a sewing needle.
I put some masking tape over the nosecone because I'm not to sure about this, I snipped the rest of the chrome colour part off


I measured the thickness of the needle


I removed the eyelet with my rotary tool


I have the Tamiya Hobby Drill which is really very good as you would expect,


I Started with the smallest bit & worked my way up until the needle fit
I got very lucky this didn't take to long

I used the eyelet as a plug & also so I don't catch the needle.


I need to seal in the decals with a clear coat.

Lookin good, I have this one in the stash as well.

Love the idea of using the sponge with toothpicks to hold the kit for decals.

Cheers for having a look Stuart, I wish I could take credit for the sponge idea but I got it off Youtube can't remember who's video.

Mate, Thank's for having a look

Time to do some weathering. I wanted to keep it to a minimum because in all my searches on the net about just plane I never really seen a dirty one.
I guess it might have something to do with it being a Sea Harrier


Used some Black Oil Paint thinned quiet a bit

Light Weathering
