Hi folks.

Paul has graciously allowed me to post to ask for your help.

I run www.modelsforheroes.co.uk We're a charitable organisation supplying model kits and materials to the Art Therapy departments of Personnel Recovery Centres in the UK.

We're looking for donations of small beginner model kits and model making materials like clippers, glues, brushes and paints. Also we have a crowdfunding page to raise funds for all the things we don't get as donations.

www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/modelsforheroes

You can contact me through this sites PMs. Id love to hear from you.

Please take a look at your stash and see if there's anything suitable. We cannot except started kits or current serving military vehicles. WW2 and Cold war subjects are ok. Civilian vehicles are perfect.

The PRCs provide valuable support to our injured servicemen and women giving them respite, somewhere to recover from their wounds and activities and sports that they may have never tried.

Scale Modelling as Art Therapy is used to help residents with PTSD and spinal injuries. Residents can experience total immersion during a modelling session blocking the fears and stresses of the outside world. Long periods of time can be spent Modelling receiving valuable respite from imposing thoughts.

Spinal injuries equating to a loss of motor control can be challenged and exercised with scale modelling activities. Strength and hand eye coordination also is tested.

For our Heroes, scale modelling is well known for its benefits. Models for Heroes wants to make sure they have the best models available all of the time.

I don't know of an Australian equivalent , perhaps we are behind the times here. Government doesn't seem to care too much and this seems such a cheap form of help.

No they don't.....

Unfortunately as soon as you leave the armed forces, our government just seems to give up on us. It's quite sad really

Looks like a great idea but the kits in my stash are nowhere near being called beginners kits. Would a cash donation be any good instead?

Hi Stokesy.

A donation to the Justgiving page or a cheque sent to our address would be well received.

Thank you, it's very generous of you.

Just two weeks left to try and get to our target of £1,500 please donate what you can. Any funds raised will pay for the materials that do not get donated.

Shameless bump. Sorry. Not sorry. ;)

Hi Richard,

We prefer 1/72 only because the kits tend to be quicker to build and smaller for shipping cost. We have been donated some enamel paints and acrylics but water based is best as it's easier to clean up with readily available water.
Thanks mate!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gufGY5omNlY An interesting but distrurbing PTSD ted talk from australia. Most disturbing is that more soldiers have returned from afghanistan and have comitted suicide than enemies killed. Not enough support is out there for these folks. Not. Enough.

Hi guys.

This is a shameless bump.

For those that havent seen this were raising funds to purchase more modelling materials for ex servicemen with crippling PTSD. Scale modelling is taught at the Help For Heroes Recovery Centres and Combat Stress charirites as part of therapeutic craft sessions.

https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/modelsforheroes

Please consider donating the cost of a few paints to us. For more details look over our website: www.modelsforheroes.co.uk or email me malcolm@modelsforheroes.co.uk We also take donations of simple, beginner type kits and basic modelling tools.

Thanks for reading folks.
