Priming

Looking at video builds on sites like YouTube it seems to me that people don't always prime interiors. I see this a lot on aircraft builds where the cockpit colour is just painted straight onto bare styrene.

Personally I always prime them. What do other members do ?

I don't usually bother with priming interiors. If I'm priming another build exterior at the same time I'll do it or I'll prime the bits on the sprue. In fact with most of my interiors I don't usually spray the bits other than the cockpit walls, I brush paint them. Depends on the build and how much will be seen.

There's a guy down my local modelling club who doesn't use primer at all and his builds are superb.

I think as with all hobbies there's 'received wisdom' that says you have to do this that and the other when in actual fact if the end result is how you want it to be then any method of building/painting will do; although it's best to start off with accepted ways of doing things then discard those ways as you gain experience and see fit.

I started off priming everything, now it depends on how much you are going to see. So most of the time I don't bother priming interiors.

If there's resin and/or p.e. involved I always prime to get a consistent base to paint on. Otherwise, as others have said, depends how much will be seen.

Endorse Avgas's view to start off with wisdom of others and then adapt to suit your needs. Saves making the mistakes of 1000's of others. Although there's nothing like messin' it up for yourself to really learn the lesson

Same here. A good base colour, sometimes a filter (I tend to add a yellow filter to interior greens) then washes and dry brushing for me.

Not much to add to be honest I tend to prime depending on how visible the parts will be and also considering which paint I'll be using for the base coat as some seem to need priming more than others. Also the primer can help brighten or dull the basecoat so that's something else to consider.

I tend to prime everything but I treat it as airbrush practice as I'm still learning.
