Eduard 1/48 limited edition SU-27UB Flanker

Hi guys
So this will be the buildthread for my Eduard Limited edition SU-27UB Flanker in 1/48 scale
The kit is basicly a Academy kit with a bunch of added resin and photo etch goodies in the box
I bought it after seeing Paul's review of this kit but to be honest i already liked the look of the Flanker

So this is the kit



Upper and lower fuselage halfs


Air intakes


Rudders i think


Elevators


Engine and landing gear parts


Missles


Cockpit tub and the nose cone that snapped of one of the sprues


Canopy


Nasty moldline suprise
But i think i can fix it


Large decals


Stencils ,lots and lots of stencils


Photo etch
2 steel colored ones and a printed fret for the cockpit


All the resin for the cockpits ,seats ,cover for the front landing gear and 2 helmets


Pre cut masks
I love these things as i don't like masking


Colored A4 sized instruction book


The version i want to build
It belongs to the Ukranian airforce


Some additional goodies
A new nose cone from resin ,metal pitot tube and resin burner cans
I started to dislike Aires after my problems with the A-10 but these look pretty good and after i assembled them i test fitted them and they actually fit perfectly


The exhausts in parts


They do look a whole lot better then the kit parts

And that is all i have for now
I made a small start by cleaning up the cockpit parts but there is still more then enough work on that before i can start painting
Once the cockpits are done i will post a update
Or atleast assembled

Hi guys
I have a tiny update for today
Even though i have been very busy this week i managed to get a little bit of bench time
So i worked on this bird for a while so i can get it ready for some primer
And it is now ready,the seats will be added later as those would make masking harder when i want to paint the camo with a open canopy

But here is the little bit of progres

The front cockpit


And the rear cockpit


The cover for the front pilot's instrument panel is made from a single piece of pe
Looks pretty hard to make but it is fairly easy


Some more pe for the interior


And a bit of pe and resin for the interior of the fuselage
The big squares are colored but as they need to be in the same color as the rest i will just paint over them
There's not that much detail on them anyway

And that is all i have for now
Like i said a little update
My goal is to prime them tomorrow and start painting during the week and hopefully i can close up the fuselages for this build and my A-10 build by the end of the week

Looking good so far Mark. I'm building the same kit and the only real problem I've had so far are the ailerons. The way they are molded the halves didnt fit together without removing the locating pins. I will be interested to see if you have the same problem.

Hi guys
Just a little update for now
I managed to work on this a bit during the week and by now the fuselage is buttoned up
I am trying something new for me and that is to skip the washes on the cockpit
Because i tend to build all my planes with a open canopy it makes it quite hard to mask it all
But if i leave the canopy as a seperate part and don't fit the seats right away (haven't even build those yet) then masking is easier and once i get to the point of the washes for the entire plane i can still reach inside the cockpit
It is just a test for now but who knows it could work for me

Anyway this is what i have been doing


The resin cockpit tubs wher eprimed and painted
All the panels on the sides are brush painted and slightly dry brushed while the colorfull instrument panels are from the kit
They are the well known Eduard printed pe parts wich i quite like to use


Then the cockpit tubs where glued inside the upper fuselage half
This takes a bit of messing around because of the photo etch you need to place on the inside but they fit once the instrument panels are at the right angle
At first i just looked at the instruction that tell you to have them at a angle but not how much of a angle
So i had a bit too much but after a couple of test fits everything fitted just fine
With the fuselage halfs glued together i placed the resin nose cone wich also serves as a nose weight
It is fairly heavy after all with it being a solid puece of resin


But a bit of sanding is required to get a flush fit
Wich shouldn't be a problem as there are a couple more places to sand smooth like the parts just behind the wings and the usuall seam line that goes all around the plane


And just for the fun of it i placed it next to my otger plane build
The Flanker is actually bigger then i thought
I guess about 7 to 8 cm (roughly 3 inches) longer then the A-10

At the moment this is where the build still is
I only have the really basic fuselage at this point but i am busy with some other builds aswell and currently my T-62 is on the bench as i am enjoying that build quite a lot
But once that is ready for painting i will move the planes back on the bench as i like building those aswell
I just need to finish one build at a time instead of having 3 or 4 half build kits that are just laying around

Hi guys
It is time for a update on this build
By now all the major parts are build so only the landing gear ,seats and canopy are left
And the various small parts like antenna's but those couldn't be fitted before i started sanding everthing


I think some parts are a bit bent
But a bit of pressure while the glue is drying fixes it


Then the parts for the wings where added and the elevators and rudders where assembled
No issues to speak of here
The rudders are placed on the plane but will be painted as seperate parts to make it easier to mask the camouflage scheme and the bare metal parts of the engines


The fit of the intakes was a bit poor
And the pe grills and fod screens where a bit of a pain to get in there
I managed to break 2 of the slats in one of the grills so those had to be glued back in with a bit of care and attention


The pitot tube is just friction fitted
I test fitted it but it doesn't come out anymore and i don't want to risk bending it by using pliers


Test fit of the exhausts
They will get glued in once the plane is painted


All the missles where assembled
Not all of them will get on the plane as there are only 8 pylons
But i could mount the 2 in the centre if i want but i need to see if those are used for missles and if so for wich ones
If they aren't used for these missles i won't go through the efford of placing them either

And that is about all i have for now
I will start working on the landing gear today and the other parts that still need to go on the plane
Hopefully it will be ready for painting by the end of the day

There still is a lot of small stuff to add to it
I just looked at the instructions for the canopy and that could take up some time with a pe part for almost each surface
