Ok I need help with the planning of my next diorama, the photo below is of my grandad in Burma & I need help with identifying the truck they are next too & colours of the uniforms & what the terrain was like, I'm going to try to get my mojo back with as it has a personal edge that might give me the kick up the .......

trying to get a handle on what I'm looking at. Is that a smallish truck with a canvas lean too on the right side. Right hand steering ? I'm having trouble perceiving the perspectives.

It looks left hand drive to me, canvas top, windscreen opening forward, maybe quite large comparing the flat (not sloped) bonnet height to the people, I'm having trouble with it too, not a lot to go on.

As for the terrain when I think of Burma I think jungle, that might be a clearing. Without too much generalisation think Vietnam-like when I think of Burma, although never been to either.

This looks like the canvas top but not tall enough:

Just some ideas to see if they ring any bells with anyone:

yep left hand steering, I can now see the opened windscreen, that's what was throwing me. I could see the edge of the screen at almost same height as the top edge of the cab.
My best guess is a
1943 Dodge WC52 Winch Truck....with or without the winch, but it makes more interesting.
My reference points being the windscreen, how canvas is attached and how it is arranged at the cargo body. The double edge on the engine bonet at the side, jerry can stowage and some had the square side mirror.
BUT hey been wrong before.

WC51 Dodge Truck, Cargo, 3/4 ton, 4x4

The 3/4 ton series of Dodge WC trucks was introduced in late 1941, replacing the G505 1/2 ton trucks of the period 1939-1941. The most versitile of the 3/4 ton "Weapons Carriers" was the WC-51 or WC-52, two trucks that were identical except for the presence (WC-52) or absence (WC-51) of the front-bumper-mounted winch. Although called a "weapons carrier" it had folding troop seats down both sides of the cargo area and was primarily used to haul personnel and ammunition.

What was your grandfathers job???

He was a radio operator, not a close family now so details are sketchy, I know he was awarded the Burma star & served there, funnily enough it is rumoured within our family that our great great grandfather? was involved with the charge of the light brigade but that dio is too much for me, although I'm going to look at our family tree for that.

Would this wc51/2 have a provision for radio installation?
